Someone was arguing with me that the character archetypes/dynamics that have been described so far is ripping off Red Dwarf. I personally don't see it.
On the upside, their observation isn't turning them off from the show, they claim they're still excited to watch it, so I guess that's a positive?
Very possibly, but "All in the Family" and "Three's Company" also credited British comedies due to sufficient similarity... most shows do get influenced by others... that might be one reason some are skeptical but are still interested in seeing what it's going to show.
But it's hard to say, at least based on what's been told in articles, that the one guy
is somewhat influenced by Arnold J Rimmer in being "by the book" and getting everything wrong. (Or Sheldon Cooper... he wouldn't go near gagh either. Most humans wouldn't, not without reading up on biology courses to find out what eating live serpent worms might do to one's innards... but Dr Pulaski would always take any known antidote preemptively. She and Riker were the alpha explorers for sure.

And as none of the other characters has been talked about, the chances that one's a mechanoid and another evolved from a pet seems unlikely...
Milk while the cow still moos, definitely. Not since the late-1990s has Trek been flooding the pasteurized quality moo juice... only 20th century Trek didn't branch out into comedy, and let the skit shows of the time do that...
Of course, Futurama's latter days had one block of episodes divvied between two seasons...
Mariner must be a klutz as well or else Boimler wouldn't be reacting like that... but it's a parody cartoon, it does look like it's going to revel in comedy. 21st century Trek really wants to insert its name into every genre... even self-parody. This will be interesting to observe.
