Don't read that much into it.In reading that Trekcore article again I noticed this promising quote -- "Scott Mantz joined the group on stage, describing his shock and amazement at seeing clips of the newly-restored footage, and talked about some of the content – including an extended scene between Kirk and Edith Keeler from “The City on the Edge of Forever,”
NEWLY RESTORED FOOTAGE -- not "found footage" or "bonus footage " -- but newly restored.
That indicates that they did indeeddo some amount of restoration. Whether to intergrate it or just so it would be more attractive to look at -- time will tell.
So you are assuming that when he used the word restored he didn't know what he was talking about.
Not assuming anything. After sitting in on the panel and seeing some of the footage and talking with those involved with the project, it's safe to say it's not restored. So you are assuming that when he used the word restored he didn't know what he was talking about.
What's your definition of "restored"? Do you think it'll look like the HD transfers of the series? No, it's faded, it's raw, there are no sound effects, there's no music. These are 50 year old dailies and trims that were not stored under ideal conditions. So it looks like 50 year old film with no restoration because they showed all of it at the con?
In that case they better not let any copies of the set get into any reviewers hands before release date because who will rebuy those episodes to see tiny little trims? Not me. I'm sure we'll know a lot more in the coming months, but little trims of unrestored footage? No thanks. I'm not basing my purchase on the footage being integrated into the episodes, but the material better damn well be substantial.
I want deleted scenes. We got a fair amount of background video from Billy Blackburns treasuse chest. Interesting for sure, but I'm not that huge on "making of"
I watch that stuff once and I'm good.
Deleted scenes I love and that's what I was hoping for.
I don't want to be let down -- I want deleted scenes. To me anything else WILL be a letdown.
So my hopes are not too high. Maybe a miracle will happen and we'll get one or two long deleted scenes that somehow survived.
And why include the 12 episodes?
A minute or two of trims from Space Seed warrants including the entire episode?
Just release the documentaries and skip including the episodes which 95% of TOS fans already have in one format or another.
