I think the Black orderly helping Locke is Future Walt.

I think the Island is the focal point of Chaos energy.

I think Locke, Arron, Walt & a few others all share some genetic similarities, that's why theres the experiment on pregnant women & children.

I think the Smoke Monster is the combined manifastation of psychic energy of all the "special" people on the Island.

I think the numbers are the formula of Chaos energy.

Average. More flashbacks, more padding, more mumbo jumbo.

If you don't like flashbacks and mumbo jumbo, you're in the wrong show.

I thought the flashbacks were very good this episode (part of the reason it got boosted from an above average to excellent).

I'm curious about the connection of Abaddon and The Others. I had assumed it would be Richard at the end who suggested the Walkabout (maybe sneaking in a brochure and then leaving before he gets seen). It makes me wonder if he really is working for Widmore.

Young Locke definitely seems to be similar to Walt in that he does weird things. I guess Walt should be his successor, just like he's Ben's successor. I've been assuming until now that the Others just need to increase their population, but it's possible the Tailie kids are special as well.

I loved the Horace scene! One of the most obvious examples of time travel, and then they make it all questionable again by it being a dream. Wonderful ;)

What is the point of the "test" Richard has with those various objects-Book of Laws, baseball glove, knife, jar of sand?, compass? Which
item was he suppose to choose? Were these the sorts of tests Walt was subjected to? Is this sort of the same experiment Charlotte and Dan were doing with the cards?

I had the idea that young Locke choosing the knife acknowledged to Alpert that on the island, Locke would be hostile to Ben. Or, alternatively, that Locke did choose the only possible correct object, and the whole "special school" thing was a ruse. Alpert got confirmation that a) Locke can see through time (or whatever), and b) He will end up on the island, and then he got away from him as soon as possible.

Did anyone else notice the strange juxtaposition of the comic book and the knife? There was a title "Hidden Lands", and the cover art depicted a man screaming and pointing at the knife. Really odd.

I think Locke DID pick the right objects... but his pick showed that he would be the next chosen one after Ben, not the current one. That's why Alpert said something about maybe later. So Alpert was disappointed b/c he wanted Locke now not Ben, because Ben is a psycho.

Another EXCELLENT! I don't expect anything less.

What was the device hooked up to Martin that Omar was placing on him before closing the door?

I think it is that device which saved most of them from the Smoke Monster. That is why Keamy warned the Aussie Boat Captain not to shoot him. Just a theory.

So, there's only 6 "survivors" because that's all that fit on the launch before the island got "moved"?

Little Locke "owned" the island (the sand), was a guide (the compass), and a warrior (the knife)? Was Richard upset that Locke picked the knife, or was it more confirmation that Locke was the correct one--and so "they" had to make sure he stayed kinda "hidden" and therefore NOT going to the "special school" for future scientists--or not the correct one but special enough to be invited to the special school for future scientists?

Either way, time travel of some sort is evident, so even if Dharma wasn't created until whenever, they could always go back in time and try to tinker with things to improve their situation.

BTW, what a cute little kid he was. And I liked that he had the same "Nobody tells me what I can't do" attitude--insistent but not whiny.

Who else hopes that the island moves into a new climate? How cool would that be! Just think, they could film it up in Canada and all the palm trees will die and pine trees will sprout. And the polar bears will rejoice!

Seriously, I think it'd be a cool idea to change the island from a tropical climate to a northern climate.

Great episode with lots of layering. I won't cover what everyone else has already mentioned, but I do have one question....

What did Hurley say just before John woke him up? He mumbled something, and no matter how many times I rewound my Tivo I just couldn't make it out? Was it nothing, or was it something of layered importance?

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

Mallomars! the ultimate chocolate marshmellow cookie!

I think it was his Zune, so he could listen to "Ride of the Valkyries" when he torched the island.

Someone else might have already posted this, but the scene when Richard asked young Locke to select the items he knows are already his is exactly how in real life each Dalai Lama is selected. When the Dalai Lama dies, there is one special monk who would travel Tibet looking for special children and testing them to see if they were the living reincarnation of the Buddha. If they were, then they would know what items they owned in their previous life and thus they would be chosen as the next Dalai Lama. Watch Scorcese's "Kundun" and you'll see it all recreated. I think the "Lost" writers are aware of this and it seems are creating a parallel.

Actually, it looked like one of those time counters joggers wear.

I think you have a point.

This was also done in the animated series "Avatar:the Last Airbender" because the main character "The Avatar" is a reincarnation of the one before him.

This is one to rewatch. An excellent episode. I enjoyed it as much as "The Shape of Things to Come."

I think Claire may have been Jacob in that seen. Perhaps he was possesing her at the moment? If not then where was he and what was he doing? We need a Jacob flashback! On the other hand, if we got one, they'd manage to do it without us ever seeing Jacob.

LostPedia says it was a metronome, specifically this one.

God bless, LostPedia! :D

Who else noticed the Geronimo Jackson poster in Locke's locker?
Yeah, I noticed that. Now I'm trying to remember if Locke said anything about them when we saw Eddie wearing one of their shirts in "Further Instructions."

It's a mix between excellent and above average. The flashbacks were outstanding, but they really took their time stalling with the cabin.

I think he said 'Mallomar', which is a type of snack cake (or candy bar), haven't heard that name in a while.

edit: I see Trippy beat me to it.
