The CGI effects show us action not possible with the original optical printing technique, though I would have choreographed it a bit differently.
It would have been an interesting development if the "Children of the Son" cult had been started due to stories from survivors of Merik's ship six years earlier. Though the presence of Ian Wolfe's Septimus character seems to disprove that theory.
I don't know if it's the story as aired or the performance, but Number One never strikes me as someone superintelligent and logical. Some of those overdubbed lines of the transporter chief may be diminishing her importance, since they address Spock even if she's in the room.
