Aragorn

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
Sam Tyler encounters a young Fletcher Bellow, an officer Sam had considered to be his mentor in 2008. Although Bellow doesn't recognize Sam, they work with the other detectives in the precinct on a case in which an African-American girl had been thrown from a roof by a Puerto Rican.

In fact, we saw Fletcher Bellow in the pilot episode: he was the Captain in charge of the squad in the present day (we see him hand Sam the bulletproof vest).

And the equivalent character in the UK version was, AFAIK, named Glenn Fletcher. Nice bit of symmetry there. :)

I like the show, but the wrap-ups at the end are too quick. The stories need to play out better.

So did anyone see that "Ice Ice Baby" coming? :)

Watched last two episodes back to back and this show has defintly found its feet especially with this episode. I love the ending with that homeless man hinting at Sam's fate and hope he returns and also I felt this episode dealt better with the death of Sam Mentor than the UK version just due to that funeral scene was fantastic.

Yeah, I mean this was a take on the original episode that worked so well with the NYC setting. I feel like at this point they've pretty much moved on from the original series and are doing their own thing now.

I noticed they are really ramping up the 70s waka waka action music.

Since the BLA of all people seemed to really like some Vanilla Ice, will that change history? :p

I am really starting to like this show alot. I liked it okay at first, but now I'm really starting to warm up to the main characters. I really like the character of Sam...and they are doing an excellent job with the period stuff. And I gotta say - the last couple of episodes in particular were quite good.

I wish they'd do more with Michael Imperioli - his character is kinda a one-note kind of guy so far - the one note being 'jerk'. But that is really my only beef with the show at this point.

I loved this episode (like all the rest of them). It was definitely better than the previews made it out to be - I thought the whole thing was going to be about Sam being captured by the BLA, but surprisingly they let him go!

Whoopi Goldberg definitely needs to work on her impressions though. :p

And the final resolution of Angel's fate, well, I suppose that was Sam's idea (I doubt it would have occurred to native 70's cops). At first I couldn't figure out where they got the paint, then I remembered Angel was painting.

Side note: Is it really true that it was impossible in 1973 to determine a baby's gender before birth? When did that become routine?

I was hoping for "Baby Got Back". *heh*

My husband said the same thing. It didn't make a difference what he rap, it was just too funny. I'm still thinking about that scene with a smile on my face. Enjoyable episode to watch. Hope that it will stay on for a while. :)

Hammer's "U Can't Touch This, would have been fun also. STOP! Hammer-time!

Above-average. The way characters are interwoven and play out in flashbacks (flashouts?) is well done.

I was 4 in 1973, but a lot of the styles, shows, cars, and all that are all familiar which brings back memories.

Sometimes it seems that they're doing too much 60's stuff and not enough 70's. Guess it is too early for disco though.

Not really. They're pretty spot on with the hair styles, mustaches, and all that. IIRC, Disco took off late-1975 and was gaining steam in '76.

Damn, I feel so old now :(

Every episode I sit and wonder if this is the one where we'll see John Lennon.

Re: Life On Mars: "Things to Do in New York When You Think You're Dead

I thought slipping Namath and Croce into the show was clever. I thought this episode lacked gravity, with the BLA posing as Panthers-light. The in jokes were fun, though. I'm living for Thursday night these days-this is my current fav.
