Least favorite Trek

So no, I don't think the reason there are so many fans here is that it's a decent show, as you said. Something else is at work; and until the board becomes representative of the outside fandom, then you will go on hearing people wonder why.

"Something else is at work"???

Like what? A vast left-wing conspiracy?

An axis of evil Niners, bent on planetary domination?

I'm glad that I wasn't the only one wondering about the "something else" at work.:cardie:

.
So, shouldn't we have a secret handshake or something?

^^ Have to say, other boards/forums I frequent, DS9 is usually the one Star Trek show that non-Trekkers have any time for.
And that is borne out by the finding that Niners have the highest number of fans who like no other Trek show.

I don't doubt your poll numbers, but I have never seen that opinion expressed in the DS9 Forum. I am a very candid about my being a die-hard DS9 fan and just as openly express my appreciation for all the Trek shows, always choosing in a poll like this a "least favorite." I always make the distinction. So I think something is out of whack with that poll and who may have participated and why.

DS9, in at least the earlier years, was most often singled out as being somehow not just un-Trek like, but unworthy. Perhaps polls sparked a backlash effect and some may have taken the opportunity to be a bit contrary?

Deep Space Nine has always been my personal favourite Trek, and in my opinion, the most brilliant.

Yet it's treated like the red headed step child by Paramount and the powers that be.

It wasn't the least successful Trek by a long shot.

So what's up with that?

There is even a current thread discussing what is thought to be current thinking on the subject.

We've dispensed with a secret handshake in favour of our secret code phrase, "I don't like Voyager because......"

The show actually sucks, but we are gathering here like a terrorist cell, for the sole purpose of pissing you off by winning an occasional poll?
Shh! You're giving away the secre... Err... I m-mean, how dare you would accuse Niners of voting for total crap just to piss people off. The very idea that you could pose a poll comparing something absolutely brilliant to pure DS9 crap is insulting. And, now for a completely unrelated poll...

:guffaw: I couldn't help myself. I voted for Profit and Lace! :D

Come on! How could you not. I'm such a TOSer I'm chafed and have to apply a salve but I'll do anything for a larf, even make puerile jokes about self-abuse.

Profit & Lace currently leading City on the Edge of Forever.

I use this as conclusive proof, once and for all, beyond all doubt, that one of the worst episodes of DS9 is better than the best episode of any other series of Star Trek, therefore by default, DS9 rules!

<seriously hoping that people see the irony/sarcasm>

I voted for Profit and Lace because in my view both episodes on that Poll are completely pointless and silly. "City" is also a cornball "love interest of the week" story. Hardly much better than Profit and Lace; that's not to say Profit and Lace is a good episode, though.

Enterprise, I put it in the same category as Andromeda- completely unwatchable and I tried watching it, oh how I tried. Horrid characters and horrid execution.

Not a big fan of TNG but it has the occasional good stand alone episode that makes up for some awful characters (Data, Troi, Worf) - "Sarek" etc.

And for that piece of 'loyalty above and beyond the call (of reason)', I'll do something that I rarely do outside the DS9 forum:

You are a brave soul indeed.

Might need to make some adjustments in the area of 'taste in TV'...but your bravery is not in question. ;)

^^ Can we claim this board as our own yet?

Our well organised campaign to alienate and force out non-niners appears to be working......

If we can 'arrange' for Profit & Lace to beat out an episode of Star Trek often labelled as the greatest of all-time there's no limit to our power and influence here!

^ Now, now, now....

I just *knew* someone would go all "Mission Accomplished" on me.

I mean, we haven't even secured the bloody *perimeter* yet! :scream:

I know what it is...you're eager to move on to our planned conquest of Belgium, aren't you?

^ No. I meant Belgium.

I'm running out of Delavian Chocolates to hand out, and I need a new source of awards.

I used to be able to get Judas Ascendant to catapult donuts to the various award winners. But the problem is that the bloody guy EATS half of them before I hand them out. :scream:

Finally, I had to take away his catapult.

I suggest we rethink the whole 'Belgium' strategy. Anywhere where the number two cause of death is 'falling off one's bicycle' (right behind the number one cause - 'boredom') can't be that much fun!

But, but, but.... :(

I know Belgium doesn't sound like much of a challenge...

However, we must keep one of our patron saints' words in mind:

*puts on Martok voice and slams table*

WAR IS A ALOT MORE FUN WHEN YOU'RE *WINNING*!!!!

Besides, next up is Holland...and trust me...we can have TONS of fun in Holland. Won't even have to bring the blood wine.

Belgium: Wormhole To European Conquest

Holland? I'll break out my wooden clogs!

They should really do one of those talking key-chain things for Martok, like those ones there are for Stewie Griffin from Family Guy!

You guys now have a new Niner here. ME! MUAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHHAH.
Is it wrong that I actually find Profit and Lace amusing? Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's In the Pale Moonlight or Anything, I just find it funny.

O and I voted for Enterprise as my least favorite. It's the only Star Trek series, I don't love (DS9, TNG) or really like (TOS, VOY). Although I found that it actually wasn't as bad as I remembered when I watched them it on Sci-Fi.

Uhhmmmm! Delicious! Thanks. :D

As promised, I'm trying a little DS9. Today I watched For the Cause. I would agree that it's well written, acted, directed, and has good pacing. Multiple points of view on the Maquis were convincingly expressed. I'm willing to watch some more episodes, but I'll wait to commit to watching it all. I'm still bored by the TOPIC--terrorists, occupations, war...I'm just not interested, it's all over the news, and that's enough for me. But I'll give the characters a few more airings to win me over. I actually liked this episode better than In the Pale Moonlight. I saw the finale whenever it aired, so I knew Cassidy wouldn't be a bad guy, but I still liked the episode. It takes Ben a bit too long on her bridge to figure out why he'd be lured away, though! I did like the final confrontation between Ben and what's his name, that was well done.

So, I guess that I wouldn't characterize it as "worst" or call it a bad show again. It may remain forever my least favorite, though. But as I said, I'll keep on watching for a couple of weeks and see how it goes. More later...
