Anyone reading Buffy Season 8? (#28 of 40 came out the other day)
After the pretty dull arc of 21-25, I think it's definitely kicked into gear at last with this current arc, Retreat, 26-30, written by Jane Espenson.
Finally some focus on the Big Bad, Twilight, and his familiar faces minions. And of course the return of my favourite character in the Buffyverse, Oz, has helped.
Anyway there was a bit of a hoo-hah in the fan community after #12 when Buffy hooked up with a certain someone, and now it's happened again. Well, I don't really think it's "controversial", but a very talkable topic for the fans.
For those of you who haven't read it and don't mind being spoiled, and the end of #28 it's revealed that...

Buffy & Xander seem to be getting closer over the Season, becoming her prime confident, and there's a scene in the issue where (typical Whedon) leaves us to believe they may sorta get together. Buffy just has to go off and speak to Willow (only about killing her in the future) and when she goes to find Xander again she walks in on him smooching with Dawn.
The ramifications beyond that though will have to wait for future issues.

Bit of an ick facor when you think of Season 5 Xander & Dawn, but granted this is three plus years after the end of Season 7, Dawn is around 19-20, and Xander is around 25. Not really a problem IMO.
I kinda like it, it's been going that way for a while now, longer than Season 8 really.
