Spoilers Lanterns discussion thread

  • Thread starter The Nightmare Doctor
  • Start date
Chuckles, if you have nothing of substance to contribute, go and pass wind; that will be a greater contribution to the world than anything you can bring to the discussion.

Lanterns is moral relativist garbage. One of the creators even mentioned that someone (i.e., Hal Jordan) couldn't be "that good". Lady, if you can't respect the genre, try your hand at something else.

You could start by taking your own advice (or perhaps reining in the snark—you decide).

Hal Jordan killed Killowog, decided that he was God, drained the central power battery and blew up the planet Oa in the centre of the universe, and only then did he go on to crush time from one end to the other like an evil accordion.

But you know the funny thing?

The truly hilarious thing?

Hal Jordan was God.

I dont think so. Marvel/Disney tried that and it diluted the brand. They did it with Star Wars as well. Marvel is bouncing back a bit but thats because of RDJ and other favorites are returning for one last hurrah. Star Wars seems DOA. Its hard to get excited about this stuff when theres so much out there. Even Star Trek my favorite is getting there but its a different kind of universe where we can have different crews. So its lasted longer.

Well it didn't work with Star Wars as much as those others because Star Wars was never really a universe to begin with and was always small and constrained. Marvel and Star Trek are proper universes where not everything revolves around the same small group of people, so the multiple series works better.

As for "destroying Hal" in this show: He was expendable. Hal is the least interesting of all the Green Lanterns and never was that well written as he should've been. It was so easy to introduce Jon and Guy and Kyle because they just work better as characters. And since the Gunnverse already decided Guy was the main GL, it was a foregone conclusion that Hal was already out of the way to begin with.

It always fulfills Lucas' original vision for what the Star Wars universe should be. In 1977, he outlined his idea that, while his movie (not a series at that point) was about the Skywalker Saga (my error if he used a different term), he hoped that other writers would create different stories within the world that he created.

Well he failed to expand the Universe when he should have. He made the storyline small and constrained and left little make a real universe with.

I take it you weren't a fan of the post-Emerald Twilight explanation that Parallax corrupted Hal?

In any event, in case you were stepping into the role of devil's advocate and not, say, having a bit of fun (as is your wont), I don't buy that indirect justification for two reasons.

1. No one handling this abomination has stated that they were adapting or taking inspiration from a particular run; I would be shocked if any of them ever cracked open a four-color comic.
2. Fake!Hal isn't a supervillain with a broad, sweeping vision who goes on to commit planetary destruction; he's just not as upright as his comic counterpart, because the creators are either incapable or unwilling to portray a man that virtuous.

Hal's still around. I just read a comic from earlier this year that was starring him last week.

Oh cool. So they made a comic continuance of the show? So he'll be in the current Gunn movies? That's exciting.

Yes star wars doesnt wirk well as an expanded universe. Once the empire was destroyed there wasn't anywhere to go but another empire and honestly it was just a poor copy of what we saw before.

I like Hal and Kyle the best. I really never cared for Guy or Jon in the comics.

My interpretation of Green Lantern Reborn is that whatever remote effect Parallax had on Jordan to begin with, was a whisper compared to when he "ate the Central Power Battery AND Parallax" on Oa, which does not explain the pedophilia.

1. The Producers told the story of a grizzled man from the 80s who had to always be right, so he's a stubborn bastard more than a super villain.

2. Hal knew "procedure". What his bosses wanted him to do to minimize loss of life and achieve the guardians objective, probably to capture Zoe alive, and then interrogate her. Hal did the job wrong, because if he achieved the objective, which he did not, with no loss of life, which there was, then his bosses would ignore the fact that he sucks and needs to be replaced by John quickly. Not a team player.

John beat Jordan up while he was trying to charge his ring. More lives were being lost. John and his whole family think they are more deserving. Nope. They aren't. They want that ring for themselves to feel important not to help people.

The correct thing to do was to "call in for back up".

Hal was corrupted by Sinestro, and John was corrupted by Hal.

Fruit of a poisonous tree,

I feel like maybe John was a prophylactic between Hal and Hal's real replacement.
