I'm in the middle (no idea if any one's surprised by that). I'll watch of course, but while not as wary of it as I am of Picard season 2 or Section 31, I'm not as excited as I am for Lower Decks season 2, Prodigy, Short Treks or Strange New Worlds. I guess I'm at about a Discovery season 4 level of anticipation for this one. The only upcoming season I'm truly indifferent to would be Ready Room (but I'll still watch it).

Sounds like Trek is about to go CW. I use to like the idea of a Starfleet Academy show but the idea he is looking towards Marvel instead of Trek or even good classic Sci Fi sounds boring.

This is the one I've been waiting for. Smallville/Buffy Trek. Save the galaxy between classes while mustering up the courage to ask out that cadet you like.

I'm up for it. I hope it is specifically Kirk and Spock at the academy together as in the pitches way back. Maybe not even so much saving the galaxy. Just growing up, learning stuff. Seeing the galaxy for the first time.

I think this could be an amazing series.

I've no interest in the animated stuff but, I guess, it's good the (space?) seeds for future Trek fans are being sown.

Doubt it would happen this way, but it would be interesting to follow O'brien in his post DS9 years seeing as he left the station to lecture at the academy.

Maybe have him as your legacy character and the main cast would be various students in his classes?

Could be a good show to explain how he became the most important person in Starfleet history

Wait until Red Squad is turned into a metaphor for fraternities. A bunch of asshole cadets that gives the new 1st year cadets a hard time. The season final ends with the cadets leading a campus protest to get Starfleet to ban Biogenitics weapons at which case the head of Starfleet realizes how wrong it was to make them and talks to the Federation President about doing away with them which she does. The episode ends with our plucky heroes having a blowout campus party. The red squad assholes being kicked out of a school. And the shows lead finally hooking up with the lady or guy that the show has been posing the will they/won't they love angle all season.

Slap an arrowhead on it and shove it on the air.

I didn't read this as confirmation, to be honest. I'm not sure TrekMovie did, either. There's no direct Kurtzman quote; it feels like NYT may have grabbed this bit based on internet evidence that a Starfleet Academy series was, or is, at some level of production. (Unless I skimmed over something by accident here?)

Eugh, not my thing, personally.

I definitely think it's time for this. IMO, one of Trek's biggest problems is it's current lack of appeal to younger audiences. If Trek can now have different shows for different age groups, that could be the best thing. I'm not too concerned with this proposed Starfleet Academy series being "Starfleet 90210," especially if there are phasers and Klingons involved, but it might be good to see young officer candidates learn about Starfleet. Many of them may never have been off-world before or even interacted with other Federation races until now...
