Klingon change for season 2?

Interesting excerpt from the Klingon BOP booklet that came with the Eagle-moss model.
The first paragraph describes basically why the Klingons are so different in DISCOVERY...

(TL;DR ... Bryan Fuller wanted it that way)

You'd think he would have had more sense honestly, considering he broke his teeth as a VOY writer and had an intimate understanding of how the Trekverse actually worked.
He probably chafed working under all those old Trekverse rules back then and was planning all along to give the Klingons a makeover in the event he ever got showrunning power. No doubt he thought Torres looked too human. :klingon:

Everything that the production crew has said about the Klingon changes sounds like very polite ways of saying, "Don't worry guys, we're fixing all of the Fuller mistakes that pissed everyone off season 1!"

I don't think they're do a complete 180 on the Klingon design in Season 2.
That would be just as jarring as the change. Plus there are people people who like the new designs.

Toning down the elongated craniums, the nostril thing and the mouth area and most importantly adding some hair would suffice.

I'm sure both of those people could somehow cope.

I mean, the extent to which alien races look like humans in the Trekverse is ridiculous. And the explanation in The Chase for it was stupid.

Nonethless, it's canonical in the Trekverse that virtually every alien race can interbreed for some bizarre reason, so I don't think messing with the morphology and making races more alien looking is really a good idea.

Why? People want to make their impression, especially upon a series that have an affection for. They want their work to have a significant impact as the work had on them.

The thing about visual re-invention in this show vs the what was done in the 80s/90s revival is that make up had advanced a huge amount from the 60s, so a genuine stylistic improvement took place. Doing a rewatch of DS9 at the moment what has stood out to me is the sheer quality, imagination and skill of Michael Westmore's work. Even on numerous background characters you only ever see on the promenade. Reinventing the Klingons to the degree that has been done here was plainly therefore a very dumb thing to do.

Fuller is known for doing unique visuals. He was always going to bring his own touch to the visuals.

More unnecessary than dumb, I'd say. Even that's arguable, since we have two definite explanations for why they did it. Fuller wanted the Klingons to be more alien, and Shazad Latif had to be thoroughly disguised in his role as Voq.

I'm still not sure I buy this fan theory. Even if they decided that Tyler=Voq was an important part of the arc of the season, no one was forcing them to have Latif play both roles. But if they were dead set on this, they could have had Voq be deformed or something, having unusually heavy makeup for a Klingon, while keeping the makeup light on everyone else.

Any of the alternatives you suggested would work, but (backing away from my use of the word 'definite') I still think it could have been a factor, assuming the Voq twist was even thought of at the time the Klingons were designed. Personally, I think it would be unsatisfying to have someone else playing Voq or ash, like if Michael Dorn hadn't been Willie Hawkins in "Far Beyond the Stars."

Let's hope visually DSC moves back towards classic Trek visuals

Update Klingons fine, don't make them as is

Unis along the lines of what crew of Kelvin wore ish, more ST like would greatly help, IMO

It certainly looks like, looking back at the SD:ID makeup, the Klingons in that move had very light makeup - potentially none at all - below their nose and upper cheeks, leaving the entire mouth region free to emote.
