Klingon change for season 2?

Can't wait for Michael Dorn to ask why he has to have an elongated head for his appearance in the Picard show. Maybe they'll tell him it's because he's now playing an old Klingon. :klingon:

https://www.cinemablend.com/televis...n-is-happy-not-playing-a-klingon-on-discovery : "I am actually really glad that I am not in that makeup, because if you go online and look up YouTube of Mary Chieffo -- just a wonderful, just a sweetheart, but what they do to that poor girl is mind-boggling. There are three makeup artists working the whole time on her...I mean, it's okay. It's just another iteration."
The make up has been improved since he did that interview. Mary says its a lot better now.

And the elongated head is gone in Season 2 if you look at page 1.

I am curious about what visual approach they will use for the Klingons in the Picard show. Maybe it will be somewhere in between the TNG look and the Disco look.

It occurred to me that I can't remember ever seeing Worf's ears. Maybe it's possible that underneath all that hair, his ears did have the more reptilian look like the Disco Klingons!

They'll probably cut the budget down drastically to save money, so... the Klingons in the Picard show will be suffering from a new strain of Augment virus, with Michael Dorn appearing as Worf without any makeup, and the Pike prequel show will take place on a set carried over from those TOS bridge recreations at conventions/museums.

According to an early review of episode 3,
the whole ‘shaving during war’ is brought up in dialogue. So this is actually going to be canon, not just BTS info.

I don't recall any implication of surgery for the classic Klingons who appeared in "Blood Oath."
An implication is all it is, and it doesn't come from "Blood Oath" (DS9) itself, but rather from "Divergence" (ENT)...

ANTAAK: My targ won't even recognize me.
PHLOX: In the future, it may be possible to reverse the cosmetic effects.
ANTAAK: I suppose this is what I deserve. Millions of my people will have to live with this disfigurement. It'll be passed on to our children. Life won't be easy for us.
PHLOX: You did your best to correct your mistakes. That's all we can ask of ourselves.
ANTAAK: I doubt my superiors will allow me to remain in my position. I'll need to find a new specialty. Perhaps cranial reconstruction?
PHLOX: I have a feeling that's about to become very popular.

That's pretty odd. Now how can this be explained "in universe"?

Just a minor retcon and alteration, like how Worf's makeup changed over the course of TNG. I will agree that this is less a refining of the basic concept and change that looks odd when compared, but I think we can let it slide as "Early Installment Weirdness" or something.

Fuller's Follies, imo. I am really torn about that guy. On the one hand... Yay! He resuscitated Star Trek! But on the other hand... they're still cleaning up the messes he initiated before getting canned.

Just how in early TNG every Ferengi seemed to slur their words and have very spastic body language, being very snakelike. By later in TNG and the time DS9 rolled around they weren't as reptillian in their physical behavior and spoke more like average Star Trek humanoids. They still stressed words like "hew-mon" but most Ferengi dialogue became very easy to understand and was delivered much more organically.

So not all Klingons got smaller heads in season 2.
i was feeling some of the makeups in this episode. except poor l’rell’s uncle... i don’t know how he stayed upright with that noggin.

It’s also done to make the actor more comfortable in the makeup. L’Rell seems the most drastic because she has more screen time than other Klingons who are either one-offs or only appear a few times a season.

I really liked how Burnham's line about Klingons growing back their hair made it sound like it was a new fashion trend. Personally, I thought the Klingons all looked amazing in tonights episode. Loved the variation and individuality of hair styles on display

I guess it's canon that Klingon hair grows super fast too. Hasn't it only been a few weeks since the end of the war?

Personally not a fan of them throwing in a line trying to explain it, but whatever. Hopefully that's it and we all just move on now.

The redesign showed limitations tonight, the l'rell actress gave a fantastic performance but she struggles to emote through that level of makeup, and the fight scenes were clunky no doubt due to all the heavy makeup and prosthetics

L’Rell at least, has a smaller head

I think all her hair was actually bunched up and hidden within that rear cranial dome.

ETA: Also, it looks like it's time for a thread analyzing Tyler's man bun.

Wartime shaved head, to display cranial swelling from all the extra war-mones. :techman:

At least two months since Spock took leave, and he presumably did that only after Pike ended his five-year mission, which happened after the war, and in all probability not right after.

L'Rell's hair didn't grow super fast when she was imprisoned first by Kol and then by Lorca/Cornwell/Georgiou... But I guess we can't completely rule out fast. Perhaps Klingons don't shave, but rather tear out their hair at least inch deep, and all her growth was on the inside for the days or weeks of captivity?

Klingons do enjoy pain, so ripping their hair out might be considered more honorable than shaving.
