Kelvin Timeline all but confirmed

Because the show doesn't take place in the prime universe despite what people think?

Captains Log Supplemental: our attempt to return Mister Worf to his universe of origin has gone swimmingly. Whilst using the sensors to scan for quantum signatures and the fluctuations therein would be the more usual method, we have instead opted to ask him what uniform he usually wears. Combining comparative fashion analysis and my own studies of federation interior design, we were able to accurately define the correct universe to within one tenth of a moodyfan...the recognised standard for determining pan-universal differentiation according to Guinan, and she would know, she once dated Ted Danson apparently.
This has led to some distress from Counselor Troi, as it turns out that in the entire multiverse, only her husband was having her stitch labels with his name on into his underpants.
This reminded me of a Log from a previous enterprise, under the command of Captain Kirk, whereupon being informed of his uniqueness in the universe, and perhaps more by his CMO, he is recorded as having retorted 'we are ...like buses. There will...be another...in ten minutes or THREE at once.'

I have passed these findings onto Starfleet Command, and am informed they are already being implemented into the new Intrepid class interiors. It is hoped that by going for stylish and timeless designs, crewmen will simply not care or notice if they hop universes, or indeed turn out to some form of quantum duplicate, thereby saving hundreds of man hours in rescue attempts and artisanal carpentry. It is hoped this will reduce the sum damage to the universe by canonpedant particles by at least ten percent, and increase the success of temporal missions by at least one guardianogram.

I think the problem with some of the expectations as to what designs look like is that people are building their expectations based on it's relation to other periods of Trek, rather than to what we expect the future to look like from our current standpoint.

To go further - The TOS bridge and designs were based on what someone though those things would look like in the future based on what we saw in the 1960s (not to mention budget limitations, etc.) From a 1960s standpoint, that bridge and that ship probably DID look futuristic. Then as time went on, real world designs and technology changed, so here came the movies and they had to adapt to what something futuristic would look like from a 1970s/1980s stand point. Then here came TNG, and that was based on what they thought something would look in the future from a 1980s stand point. While this works out since as the series progressed, you then had "Enterprise" which made designs that looked futuristic from a 2001 standpoint but now looked more futuristic than TOS. Seriously, how do you make something look LESS advanced than TOS designs when we already have technology and aesthetics that are more detailed and advanced from that now? That's something that needs consideration.

The other thing to consider is that with High Definition and the clarity if offers there is opportunity to exploit that with more details and more detailed designs. As a matter of fact, they even did this when "The Motion Picture" hit the big screen, adding tons of details to the hull, the details on the ship's interior, etc. Even "Enterprise" did this with adding an aztec pattern on the Constitution Class "Defiant." I personally think adding detail for the sake of adding detail does not always yield good results, however, it is part of the thinking that goes on.

It is also interesting to note how much of an influence design in Star Trek had on design in the real world. Chicken and egg.

I just don't understand how fans will say they want a series to be a little past Nemesis and that timeframe so it will be further into the future, but then say they'd like TNG characters to appear. If you want series and movies to keep going further out into the 25th Century, why do you want TNG people to be in it?

Cameos are different to leads.

It has been stated a number of times, this is indeed the prime timeline

Fuller also stated it could be a prequel to either the Prime or Abrams universe.

One of those things that fans take far more seriously than the creators do. Do we really think that they are going to avoid a good story because it contradicts something that happened in TOS, TNG or ENT or any other spinoff/movie?

Erm. That's because any non-Kirk featuring story set in this time period would theoretically be the same (pretty much) in either universe in this time period. Vulcan Boom is the big universe difference, and hasn't happened.

So then Fuller is still correct that the show can take place in either timeline.

Erm. That is what i said. 'Its prime but could be either' is basically covered by its date and never showing Kirk or the Specifics of the kelvin destruction.

Who said it? I tried to search and keep getting the Bryan Fuller quote from before he left the show. I'm just curious(honest!)

Up until 2009, an episode contradicting previous canon was bad writing.

Which is why TWOK is generally considered to have the worst writing in any Trek movie.

And there were never any quibbles about its canonical status.

To be fair...it's the acting and effects/design which make that movie.

That's not the point.

Continuity or canon or whatever is never something any writer in any multifaceted franchise should ever be beholden to.

*ETA: I'll even add that forcing a writer to adhere some sort of fictions set of rules does more to suppress creativity than encourage it.
