Kelvin Timeline all but confirmed

Unfortunately, there were still fans who shouted "Apple store!" every time they saw the bridge, or "brewery!" every time they saw engineering.

Correction: Fans shouted "brewery" every time they saw a brewery.

I thought the trailer looked gorgeous and had great production values. It actually looked like a feature film, not just a TV series. Just based on the trailer, it looks like they spent their money well, at least when it came to the visuals and cinematography.

Zero argument there. I wholeheartedly agree that the trailer looked cinematic and have stated it so.

Has this even been shot yet or is it another Axanar/Pike film? The trailer released in March has disappeared. And no I never thought Discovery would look anything like this. I expect to see some tips of the hat but I like what I saw this week in the Discovery trailer.
As far as I know, it's been shot. Why the trailer vanished and the state of the film currently is beyond me.

I'm keeping an open mind on Discovery, and in fact I do like some of the production values in the trailer. It just seems a bit odd for me to imagine those elements leading into the TOS era, when IAMD did a very nice modern reproduction of those and it looked good (to me at least ;)). YMMV.
IAMD was great, as was the DS9 episode, but they were gimmick episodes, the whole production wasn't centered around it. I have no problem with the production design changes from TOS to TMP to TWOK..........1) Because it is fiction 2) it's been 50 years.

The Star Wars analogy is better but the reason I think those designs have weathered better is because of Lucas's "used" concept. Everything already looked old and worn.......Except the shiny new Empire gear which was mostly gloss black. Black is always in fashion.

That always makes me nervous these days, Pike really looked good too and they have not said a peep since about December 8th I think.

Thanks for the alert!

Not sure I have anything new to say on the subject of the Eugenics Wars . . . although I will say that I largely avoided dealing with Voyager's "Future's End" when I wrote those books, aside from a few little Easter eggs.

Although one of these days I wouldn't mind doing more with Rain Robinson. (I still kinda wish she had joined the Voyager crew as a regular back in the day.)

Star Wars doesn't have to keep pace with the modern world. The whole "long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away" takes care of that.

While I think it makes perfect sense that the sets would have to be updated could someone tell me why the uniforms would be needed to change to much from "TOS." time?
The Kelvin universe actually uses the classic starfleet uniform and updates it but also makes it feel almost the same from the show. The good thing is you could do this while also still expanding things by offering alternate clothes for them to wear such as dessert clothes or armor suits for missions and so forth.
Seems to me you can still take a classic design and keep it while also expanding on it and doing a more updated idea of having people not always wearing the same uniform all the time no matter what kind of mission they might be on. The Kelvin Universe movies I felt did a great job with this idea.

The Discover uniforms look modern, but have a nice touch of pre-TOS flair. I think they look just fine for what they are.

Because the show doesn't take place in the prime universe despite what people think?
Cite your sources, please. The producers of the show state the universe is Prime timeline. Of course, that could mean many things, but your word against theirs is going to require some strong evidence on your part.

Chill. I was being sarcastic. Well, mostly sarcastic, anyway.

I'm fairly sure you're right, though, in a large sense.

Trek continuity has always contradicted itself so much that the producers saying this show takes place in the old universe is a get-out-of-jail card: whenever they contradict the old continuity, fans who are absurdly grateful for the nod to oldTrek will do backflips to rationalize away the problem - Trek fans had forty years of experience doing that already, after all.

I don't know why some worry so much about the absolute details of canon when we know before hand it's not strictly adhered to by any series or any production team. As has been pointed out a thousand billion times already every series violates canon.
