Kate Mulgrew not a J/C'er!!!!

Kim C, yes, re: BSG and "mature" women having romances (of course they do). I wonder if Voyager was being produced today Janeway wouldn't have such a problem of being considered "too old" at early/mid forties! (And less of a problem of being a woman leader, since there have been more in sci fi and otherwise.) She was a trailblazer! Gs.
PS, Well, Chakotay was too old for 7; emotionally she was a teenager, and it probably ended soon (like in the books), ha.

I watched and enjoyed Voyager and so did a lot of my friends, not all of whom are always politically correct, but there was never any problem with a woman captain in and of itself. Of course there were a few jokes--a woman driver lost in space, asking everyone for directions, and the like, but we all watched the show week after week and were quite fond of Captain Janeway. I think the problem with a woman captain began with paranoid feminists who thought that men must hate Captain Janeway because of her position of authority. I’ve never met any such men except in the minds of certain women.

Actually, and I was there, being a Trek fan since the 70's, when it was announced that Voyager would (probably) have a woman captain, many male Trek fans unfortunately protested this. (So it had little to do w/ Janeway as a person.) They were quite vocal on message boards. A captain needs to have testosterone, a captain needs to have machismo. A woman will just not do! I was kind of shocked to see Star Trek fans, who were supposed to be more "forward thinking" say stuff like that. Of course, everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but too many male trek fans just didn't want a woman captain, period. Well, sorry, fellows, it happened. (Of course, with the state of nuTrek, being more of a "guy thing," don't know if women are again being marginalized, but we'll see, hope I'm wrong.)

^^
Sure, before Voyager aired everyone thought that having a woman captain was all PC, and that the show would have little else to recommend it. But the show sold itself to the public by having a realistic woman captain who ruled because of her authority, not because she could out fight, out cuss, and out spit all of the men on the ship: She was fine with being a woman and did not try to be a man.

After the series began, I remember no male objection, in my circle, to a woman captain. Feminists seem to remember thing differently.

One thing that no one talks about is the fact that Kate Mulgrew does not compare that well in terms of attractiveness to the other Voyager women. Janeway was just too old and stodgy for Chakotay, especially given his other choices. I've always felt this way, even when watching the series originally.

Except that Kate Mulgrew isn't the one wearing the corset under her costume, which is more that you can say for both Robert Beltran or Jeri Ryan.

Wow! You think Jeri Ryan is *fat*? Needs a corset to hold in her gut?

:guffaw: :guffaw:

Yep, wearing the costume assigned to her is certainly proof of her hideousness...

:guffaw:

Teya, I said she was wearing a corset, I didn't say she was fat; however Robert Beltran does have gut problems.

Exodus, according to common knowledge, Kate never wore the "Star Trek" push up bra, apparently she got Braga to say she looked fine when she wasn't wearing it so she left it on his desk. Marina Sirtis said she wished that she had thought of the same gambit. Apparently it was one very uncomfortable accessory.

Kate has told the story at conventions.

I don't think it was her age but Chakotay seemed to be into more "racier" women. Chakotay didn't seem to seek many women for an emotional bond as much as for sexual satisfaction and their wild rebellious nature.
Then it makes even less sense that he would get involved with Seven of all people. :borg:

As we know, Kate often talks out of both sides of her mouth because she told a completely different story at a con. I attended. So I'm just going by what I heard with my own ears.

Right, because openly questioning & disobeying the chain of command as many times as Seven did isn't rebellous in any way.

Oh right, Seven is the very definition of "racy" and "wild". Incredibly fun to be around, great sense of humor, partying all day long, a life full of adventures and hot sex.

And obviously, if you wanted to seek a woman for sexual satisfaction, the first one you'd turn to would be an ex-Borg who's never had sex, probably doesn't know exactly how to do it, and isn't even sure if she wants to. :borg:

You're right, DevilEyes, we men have much higher standards than that!

Oh, I'm sure there are loads of guys who get off on that. Emotionally confused teenage virgins scared of sex (and Seven is emotionally barely more than a child) have always been very popular with quite a big percentage of adult male population. But that's pretty much the opposite of being into "wild, racy women".

And Seven and Seska are so similar, aren't they? Riiight.

Seven--a confused virgin scared of sex? As I remember it, it was poor Harry that was scared. "Take of your clothes, Harry Kim, resistance is futile."

She also wasn't the least bit embarrassed when Q jr. removed her clothes to see her naked either.

She also had a very mature adult reaction to the Doc. becoming aroused in her body.

I think she was mentally mature enough to create a very adult holo-program of a romantic nature using Chakotay.
So by "Endgame" she was ready to actually date & persue a sexual relationship.

Yes, it would take much smoking of the funny weed to equate Seven with "emotionally confused teenage virgins scared of sex" which evil men were trying to take advantage of. That must have been an episode I missed.

Must be that lost 3rd "Fair Haven" ep.

Harry's dreams don't count.

The real Seven said "Do you wish to copulate?" in a robotic voice (and if someone finds that racy... oh well :rommie: ). She hardly seemed like a woman filled with desire and impatient to indulge in wild passionate sex, did she. I am sure she knows what copulation is in theory, but I don't think she's had actual experience, and she's hardly the most passionate, spontaneous person around. She'd probably have to learn it the way she did dating and dancing... and we know how that turned out. Harry (or anyone else) would really need to be scared, because, with her strength, she could break their ribs and rip their limbs... or other organs  just like she broke a guy's arm just trying to dance with him. She also lost consciousness after having a romantic dinner and kissing a hologram, apparently because it invoked emotions - what if copulation happened to invoke emotions as well?

She also wasn't the least bit embarrassed when Q jr. removed her clothes to see her naked either.
It has nothing to do with sexual maturity. Infants and small children aren't embarrassed by being seen naked, either.

She also had a very mature adult reaction to the Doc. becoming aroused in her body.
She was irritated and angry. What does that have to do with sexual maturity?

I think she was mentally mature enough to create a very adult holo-program of a romantic nature using Chakotay.

You've just described a teenager exploring their budding sexuality.

I'm not sure why we're discussing this. Even if Seven was completely ready for a relationship, how does that make her "racier" than Janeway or other adult women on VOY or any of the adult aliens VOY encounters? She's an ex-Borg who has had a problem with and needed to learn, in an awkward and difficult way, things like emotional behavior, social interaction, humor, fun, or sensuality. She may be wearing a catsuit because the producers wanted to boost the ratings, but the character is as "wild" and "racy" as Data.

Evil men wouldn't try to do that because, as noted above, she could rip them apart. :p

I think it would take a lot, lot more smoking of the funny weed to confuse Seven with a wild, fun, racy woman one would go to for hot casual sex... unless one was into women who are awkward and robotic, and likely to rip your limbs apart by accident.
