Karl Urban -- blond or brunet?

I am thinkin he is gonna end up as the bad guy.
Kinda leary about this one, as it had a hard time finding a distributor.
But he looks soooo fine.

From looking at descriptions of the 1970 British movie, I have an idea that they may spend a good part of the story toying with the notion of "is he [Urban's character] the bad guy or isn't he?" If they decided to keep that more suspenseful, Hitchcockian sort of approach to horror rather than the more overt, "shock and splatter" type which became more prevalent from the 70s and 80s onward, they may have something. I'll be interested in learning how this one turns out.

Saw "Red" this weekend (actually saw it twice). Yesterday at a AMC with crappy audio and today at a Cinema de Lux with a larger and livelier crowd.

I'd give it 4 out of 5 stars but I'm biased because I wanted my Karl Urban "suit porn" fix. Karl's in more of the movie than the trailers would suggest. :techman:

Good date movie. Starts out slow establishing Willis' character but gets going fast in a hurry. John Malkovich's character makes the movie fun and you can't go wrong with Helen Mirren firing big guns in an evening gown and combat boots. The plot was meh but the cast looked like it was having a great time. Would love to see some deleted scenes and outtakes on blu-ray if possible with lots of Karl, of course.

I was planning to see RED this weekend, but didn't. Was gonna drag my husband to the first showing Sat morning, but ended up sleeping in cause I had a wedding to photograph later in the day, and I didn't want to be too tired. (Insomnia issues.)
I hope to try to sneak away next weekend if I can.
Till then I'll try to get my fix via search for talk-show appearances and red carpet.
Suit porn. Ahhhh. I think I need a private moment.

(I am a tad tipsy, so ignore me if I get too brazen.)

I still want him to be the bad guy in the ...Darkness movie.
I want to think of him being soooo in control. And powerful.... and.... um.... I have to go now....

I didn't know my husband had today off (cause he is workin a funky schedule this week)... so I ran away from home and saw RED.
There were a surprising amount of people there given it was a 1:00pm showing on a Monday.

Fun movie. The kind of thing I'll buy on DVD and watch waaay too many times.
(And that has absolutely nothing to do with the excellent amount of suit and "f***-me-eyes" porn going on.)

(Really.)

(...cough...)

SOOOO, anyway....

....Now that I have mopped up my hormonal puddle from the movie theatre floor, I shall provide some comments that (hopefully) won't give too much away.

First, loved Bruce Willis. His characterization was just soft enough and just hard enough to believe he was at that "retired but not REALLY ready to retire" place in his life. He also added an appropriate amount of "with age comes wisdom" weariness.

Mary-Louise Parker totally cracked me up. Perfect part for her. She can be loopy and still provide an amazing amount of levels to her performance.
Wish there had been a bit more Helen Mirren. Felt her part was underwritten.
Karl's character had an extra level of depth written in, but was also a bit underwritten given the size of the role. Of course, his technique is such that he makes the most of it.
Random fun: There is a line that makes fun of his "cute hair." Gotta love it.

In genera all of the actors (of course) are so trained and filled with technique that they flesh out scenes and characters where nothing had been written. They didn't have opportunity to totally peel all their onions, but did pretty good with what they had.
Malcovich is a riot.
The only acting I didn't care for was from the woman playing Karl's boss.
I didn't get anything extra from her at all.
To me, she said all her lines in an "I am going to read this line as if I am a hard-core boss type."
She was very busy acting.

(This is just my opinion, though. In my former life, I had a decent amount of acting training at some prominent places, so I notice stuff most people aren't gonna be bothered by.)

In general: Fun. Even if it didn't have the great eye candy we know as Mr. UrBAN.

All in all... I am still in lust with Mr. Urban.

If only he'd call....

Just looked at the "...Darkness" website you provided.

Did you notice that there is a screening in LA in December... but otherwise it is going straight to DVD/Blu-Ray at the end of December.

Yep... I'm hoping that it might find its way as an "indie" film at the local AMC here in my part of the world - but I highly doubt it... :( From the website it looks like blu-ray has the same extras as the regular DVD - so I don't know if its worth paying extra to get that format (except for the quality).

If you did some exploring on that website, it shows some interesting details...

No, I didn't. Just took a quick peek.
I am trying to get all my fall wedding-season photos finalized and off to the clients, and that is 98% of my computer time right now.
I really should not have run off to see that movie today... but.... I needed a break.

I'll take more of a look at the ...Darkness site later when my brain gets to the point that it will mutate into a wedding bouquet if I edit one.more.picture.

(Oh... but wait... I am now also writing an opinion column for a local news site... and I should probably do THAT if I take a photo break... Hmmm. This is the reason women learn to multitask. Priority=hormones.)

We interrupt this Lust-Fest for a glimpse into my Own Personal Hell:
My just-turned-2yr old learned how to climb out of his crib tonight.

(pause to bang head against wall)

I know he is 2 now... but... he is nicknamed Godzilla... The Destroyer... The Barbarian, etc. I am soooooooo not ready for him to be in an unconfined space at night.

I am gonna work a bit more and then chug some chardonnay.
A glass or 12 should do it.

We now resume this Lust-Fest, already in progress.

.

Damn I just saw on IMDB that "Cooper's boss" is Rebecca Pidgeon... who is a RADA graduate and married to David Mamet.

I feel like this should make me re-evaluate her performance... but.... I just didn't get anything from her. I am sure she is trained enough to do the homework, but it just didn't come across to me.

I don't know if we are allowed to mention other sites... but there are a lot of new pics from the RED premier at the Kiwi site.

(Have to admit, that site kinda creeps me out though. Some of those people seem like they are thisclose to being stalkers. And I do NOT like that they will post pics of his kids. Not cool.)

.

^ No that's not. :vulcan: His children should be completely off limits.

I saw "Red" today and I agree with mariajl a 100% (including that actress). It was good... not great... but good. The story is rather ordinary and mundane. I knew exactly who was going to do what about midway through. But the cast is just filled with fantastic wonderful talented amazing actors. They carry this one to the very end. And Helen, John and Morgan... fantastic! (John stole the show.)

But then there was Karl... *sigh* Every time he was on screen I had no idea what was going on because I was to busy imagining myself nibbling his neck. Oh wow. I have got to see this thing again just to see him walking around in that suit, that tight trim suit that I would love to run my hands underneath. And did anyone else notice that "bad ass" walk he had going? It just screamed "take me roughly" up against a wall... or on the hood of a car... or on this glass top desk...

What was I talking about?

Uhhh... based on the hormonal explosion you just posted, you need to go check out those pics of the RED premier on the kiwi site.
Take batteries.

Wait: Favorite scene?

Mine (talking in code): When Bruce Willis calls him as he (Cooper) is outside the interrogation room. A whole nuther side of the character.... good closeup... heartfelt emotion. Sigh.

Cool.
Here is a link to the forum menu.
http://karlurbankiwi.creatuforo.com/index.php

The site is a bit difficult to navigate.
But I am assuming most of you have seen it before anyway.

Like I said, I am not happy with the fact that they have posted some pics of his kids, but thankfully he is protective enough that what they have so far is "vague."
But for us Urban Lusters, this is THE porn site. They have everything.
Which is actually why I kinda feel like they are thisclose to being stalker-like. I don't quite understand the need to post a video, and then post second by second screen caps. Seems a bit obsessive.

Then again, I am thinking I am a freak too.
I swear I can see the shape of his face changing due to his DREDD training.
But I am going to rationalize that the reason I notice that is because, as a photographer, I am used to studying faces and such.
I still want to take this man's picture more than I want to.... uh.... you know.
Ok, I am lying.
But only cause I'm married and my husband doesn't bow to the "laminated list" idea. And, actually, cause I'd instantly lose respect for him since HE is married.
Obviously I have NEVER thought about this.... right?
(cough)
Guess it is moot. Cause Karl STILL hasn't called me!
Karl: I just wanna take your picture (and if I have to touch you a little to fix your shirt or hair or something, so be it). Really. Call me. You know you want to.

I've never been there before, but it doesn't seem to be too hard to get around. Is this the thread you mentioned above with the pics from the Red premiere?

http://karlurbankiwi.creatuforo.com/-quotred-quot-premiere-la-october-11-2010-tema644.html

Or this?

http://karlurbankiwi.creatuforo.com/karl-urban-quotred-quot-premiere-new-yorkoctober5-tema631.html

Oh gosh... I hadn't even noticed the NY Premier thread. But both threads have yummy life-sized close up pics (we're talkin sharp enough where I can see he isn't wearing contacts), that are quite drool-worthy.

The reason I posted the link to the forum menu was because if you start out at the home page you think "What? Where the hell is the forum?" and you have to enter in a non-intuitive way (for forurms).

Hello everybody, I´m new here

Hello everybody, I am called Riddick and I am Italian, I like much your site I read and it for a long time.
I read days ago post in “-- blond or brunet?
http://trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=94287&page=182

And I would like to answer the girl wrote who it (mariajl), but I do not have access to that section, request excuses if this it is not the correct site, and I hope that the administrators move this.

I looked for several forums of Karl Urban because I am his fan number one, and after watching much I was decided to register itself in http://www.karlurbaninternational.foros.ws
this it is a forum that I like much for several reasons.
1 - an interfaces very easy has to use, and is simple to see.
2- They have all the information and photos on “RED" and everything what you want to know on Karl, is a very complete forum.
3-I like KUInternational mainly because it is a serious forum, where the administrators put the sources and the credits of their information, and mainly because their photos do not have marks or logos of the forum that damage the pics making a Spam unnecessary.

Their administrators say: This forum is open to everybody. The photos are public and they are possible to be found in several Webs of Internet, we are not the authors of pics and therefore we do not put water marks with our logo to any photo. We understand that this is a bad practice and a lack of respect for his authors. We did not need nor make Spam with this, and any person can see the clean logo photos and copy them freely”.

I know the forum kiwi and it seems to me a bad imitation of KUInternational, because the kiwi takes information exclusive of the International and of other sites and they put his logo, and this seems to me a great lack of seriousness and a form to take advantage of the work others.
www.karlurbaninternational has more time of existence, and I trust much his information and sources, but also enchant to me to be able to see the photos without logo or marks damage that them, and that give to understand that the authors are those that sign the photo and that is not truth.
Of the kiwis I only see Spam Spam and Spam in all the sides, and I agree in which it is an obsessive forum.

mariajl if you want to see good photos of " RED" I recommend to everybody this serious and complete forum, where the administrators keep the privacy from the children of Karl.
Thank you very much by the attention, and I request excuses again if this it is not the correct site for post, I hope that the administrators can move it because I do not have access.
