How do you rate Jurassic Park: Dominion

I say that as a big fan of the first two JW flicks. This was an unmitigated catastrophe. Grade: F

And, though I'm willing to be proven wrong, I don't think this had much if anything to do with covid, as they were in the shooting phase when it all began - meaning, unless there were major script rewrites, enough to fundamentally reshape at least half the movie, all the many disastrous screenplay flaws were already in place by the time the shutdowns started.

Watched it last night. It was so so. I found some of the fanwank too forced for my liking.

At least they got to use a therizinosaur like that.

And why the fuck were the dimetrodons in the caves????

And surely Lex would have known Charlotte Lockwood? They would have been about the same age. They may not have been necessarily friends but if the elder Lockwood were tight with Hammond, they may have met.

That was a wonderful inclusion especially considering I hadn't even heard of it until this film.

...and then it showed up in Prehistoric Planet, too. :D

Perhaps a little weird but I was just happy to see them pop up!

All true. But that probably didn't get shown simply because Ariana Richards is now a professional painter and hasn't had an acting credit in more than 20 years (aside from one random SyFy film in 2013).

Solid A for me. On par with JW. I enjoyed the “intrigue” plot almost as much as I did the dino chase scenes. Cambell Scott was really good in his role.

I put it at a B.

First, regarding the prior characters and callbacks; I did feel like those were done well. Dodgeson had a definite reason for being, and the original cast had actual plot relevant things to do, rather than simply being cameo parts. The attack on the Jeep felt like a nice throwback to the original story as well.

However, this was an interesting film to wrap my head around. First, the story starts slow. We have three different groups essentially doing 3 different things and it takes a good 20 minutes or so of establishing the new world before there is really any "action" for our protagonists. However, once the kidnappings occur, the action element of the plot kicks up and the films pacing continues to move briskly.

I think where many will (or do) have problems with this film, is prior films are human vs nature and this one was more human vs human. Like the early Borg in Star Trek, the early Dinosaurs in Park were treated more like a force from which to escape rather than something that could be stopped/defeated. As the movie series progressed, the dinos became less intrinsically "scary" since they were established to be simply large animals; they were protecting nests, able to be trained, and our protagonists were consistently able to survive against them (even in the Park sequels).

With the exception of a few areas, this film doesn't try to make dinos the baddies. Rather, Dodgeson and GenSyn are the threat in the story. Even some of the dinosaurs chasing our leads in Malta could have easily been replaced with bad guys in black leather and motorcycles and it wouldn't have made an ounce of difference to the plot.

For this reason, the film was enjoyable as a kidnap, rescue, and bring down evil corporation plot, but the dinosaurs are definitely more of a background character in this story. If you are ok with the premise that the dinosaurs are now a part of the natural world to be protected as asserted in this film, then it can be quite entertaining. If you are looking for another "oh no, the dinos escaped from their cages" survival story, you are probably going to be disappointed.

Good deal. I was tired of the escaped dinosaur premise. It becomes, as you note, like the Borg.

For all the action and loudness, I found this movie extremely boring. Fallen Kingdom is still the worst of the series.

Went to see this today. Holiday here and didn't want to do the crowds alone at the events and my friends are all either away or sick. Thought hey I've seen every other JP movie in theaters why not go see this one even if it is terrible.

2 other people in the theater.

Movie was super out of focus. Told OPs, they didn't do anything. Left after 20 min, two free passes.

To each their own,I enjoyed this movie. It started out slow but eventually picked up. The story was a little complex but not too hard to follow. Plenty of suspenseful moments with the dinosaurs which has always been what this franchise does best. I loved it and can't wait to see it again when it streams

I enjoyed it but if they make another ill probably struggle to recall much about it just like I didn't recall much from the other two.

What I did think, and probably just me, is that despite being Ron Howard's daughter, Bryce Dallas Howard looks a lot like Marion Ross

I love this silly film but HISHE, of course, is spot on:

Post script: I went in with the long-shot hope for an one-armed Samuel L. Jackson making a surprise appearance to proclaim "I have had it with these motherfucking dinosaurs on this motherfucking planet." I knew it would never happen, but it still would've been funny. Hopefully HISHE comes up with the same idea for their video on this film.
I'm so very disappointed in HISHE right now. :(

Finally saw it. Was, against my expectations, quite enjoying it. Until somewhere around the half-way mark, and then it started to get stupid. And kept on getting stupider the longer it went on. I was genuinely disappointed as I thought this was gonna be the first JWorld movie I actually liked. :D
