Jayru (JSnaith's) 3D Trek

Just a suggestion - for a more 32nd century look, remove the neck on the engineering hull and integrate the warp pylon base fully with the engineering hull.

MotherF*$&er.......

That bridge placement.... the nacelle placement...... The overall vibe.....

Still not really convinced by the 32nd C asthetic, but you make it look good. Seconding that the pylons on the Sulu look cool though.
Thank you - I agree that it has it's problems stylistically. But lets see what I can do with it.

I think I left off with some shuttles.. you work waaaay too faaaaast. ;)
LOL, I'm trying to slow down. But, you know ideal hands...

I may well remove the neck. I have some plans for it at the moment though.

Well, I may have tweaked things a bit... But you'll have to wait until tomorrow. Bed time now (well, book time and then bed).

Keep well gang, more tomorrow :-)

Morning!

Have made a minor change to the window bays - have taken a design cue from the Voyager-J -

Other details to follow, more later!

Yep, the saucer is done. Took the afternoon off, because I think I needed to. Anyways, back at the coal face -

the beginnings of the nacelles. Let me just add, you 'aint seen nothing yet! Those nacelles are about to get "complex" -

Nacelles done and locked for the time being -

Split nacelles is something I've wanted to have a play with for a while, and this felt like the right time to do so. Let me know what you think - more tomorrow at some point, am out most of the day (Remembrance Sunday). Other half is a local politician so will be supporting what they do, even if I'm in a wheel chair!

Keep well, catch you all later tomorrow, Monday at the latest :-)

I'll admit, it does flow better with the 32nd century look. That front view is almost menacing by the way. Giving off some Vengeance vibes
Thank you, this is the right direction to go in with this ship. Will build the rest of the detail up tomorrow and the day after. Beginning to like this one again.

I very much agree with this sentiment, but the deflector housing also gives off vibes of the fan-designed Polaris-class. It does give it a sleekness and a look of swiftness and speed.
My only nitpick is the side profile now looks so slim, that the secondary hull looks almost too petite - the saucer and nacelles give it a top-heavy look, to me at least. Especially because said nacelles look almost twice the height of the thin section of the secondary hull they are over.

32c Starfleet ships -

32c Constitution Class (known as the "Kirk" Class in STO), note the small size of the detached secondary hull and the size of the attached nacelles -

32c Intrepid Class (known as the "Janeway" Class in STO), note the shape of the secondary hull and how thin it is in profile compared with the main hull and nacelles -

These are the only two ships (aside from the refit 32c Discovery) to have a distinct secondary hull. These two ships are also massive, each with crew compliments easily in the thousands range.

The 32c Sulu Class is not a small ship. I have deliberately built her to be 1.5x the size of the original Excelsior Class - she's smaller than the 32c Constitution and Intrepid. More of a scout ship, or small cruiser in context of the rest of the fleet of that time. She's also a slightly older ship, the reg is lower 322xxx as-opposed to the 325xxx that prefix most of the fleet carries (with the exception of Voyager-J and Discovery-A).

Two different artists designed Starfleet ships for DSC season 3/4/5 and stylistically they took different approaches, but kept to the same principles. The Sulu Class USS Excelsior NCC-322000 is an attempt to merge those two styles together in one.

Now, I could beef up the secondary hull, make it taller and wider - I could return to the previous design I had, but that would IMOO take it away from the 32c design ethos. I have spent a lot of time studying the designs for this time period to get a "feel" for the principles. I think I have captured the style. But... It's not an easy one to play with.

Hope the above helps explain things.

More later.
