Talk about a ‘selling point’ for the Detailer/Assignment Officer trying to recruit/find crew for these ships…
AO (on the comm with a recalcitrant Ensign Kim) — ‘Each stateroom has a window…’
ENS Kim — ‘Really? Cool! I’ll take it, then!’
AO — ‘… on the inside rim.’
ENS Kim — ‘Oh.’
Cheers,
-CM-
Of course, Kim would still only be an Ensign in the 32nd Century... lol.
I do appreciate that STO promoted him finally, I do wish his 3D avatar was more flattering. Meh.
Looking great!
So, since this isn't Discovery herself, but a sister ship that I assume was build in the 32nd century, will there be differences from the Discovery as seen in the show?
Yep, a brand new sister ship, and there are already differences! Without proper ref material (some blueprints would be nice, but I can work without them), I have to flick between screen gabs from Seasons 3 & 4 of DSC, and screen grabs of the model from STO. I've worked with less in the past
Todd Cherniawsky redesigned
Discovery for season 3 and also the
USS Voyager-J, basing the style on that created by Phillip Barker for the other ships in 32C Starfleet. They are the authors of the style I am trying to capture. Some design cues are hardwired into what I am doing, others are more... fluid. Like programable matter. I want it be clear that this is a newer sister ship, rather than a refit of a thousand year old design. In hindsight, I could have pushed the envelope a bit more. Maybe disconnected the saucer? But... yeah, she is coming together.
And, by now, you know I am a tinkerer, I can't help but try and put some logic to these designs
It would give you a hell of a view when the drive is running and the ring is spinning though.
A study of the 23C version and the 32C version shows it's panels that rotate, rather then then entire ring. Where the windows are going to be... I think it would be hard to actually see it happen from inside the ship. Also on the 32C version, parts of the ring glow when rotating.

It's all fun.
Right - no pics to share, but updates none the less. I got the font wrong for 32C Starfleet. It's
Jefferies - a similar font used on the movie ships, but lacking the outline. So that's all been changed. (I build this all in, so I had to rebuild those rings). Rooms behind the windows have been redone and "sit" better. Renders later. Things to play with first
