Jayru (JSnaith's) 3D Trek

A Refit version would be nice.

I could see a POTT wedge secondary hull having the raised Reliant stair-step slanting back towards the nacelle supports---the front of the secondary hull tapering as it does in Discovery---but an Ingram like curved deflector housing with the fantail scoop rising to meet the POTT wedge.

Capturing the secondary hull look has been... interesting. It's all one piece, the neck, hull proper, pylons, hanger bay... PITA to build - and I've rebuilt it several times trying to get the basic shape right (and I'm getting close, tweak to make and I've got it). I like your idea. Strange but true; fantail's have been dropped in the 32C aesthetic. BUT, I could see it working with this ship. Something to think on. However, I do have some updates from earlier this morning from before I saw your post (sleep? what's that? lol) -

Tweak to make to the neck, and the hanger bay and I'll say I'm happy with the shape. Tweak to the middle ring of the saucer, and I'll be happier with that. Minor tweak needed to the nacelles as well - and then, I shall ponder the way forward, whether I scrap what I have in favour of something different to achieve the same result.

Comments always welcome. More soon!

As yes, the truest indicator of the future: Science Holes.

Is this version doing the free floating nacelles thing I've seen on the future disco ships? (I am fairly behind on Star Trek stuff these days.)

Love the aztecking you're putting on this one. Well done!
Thank you :-)

Indeed it is, I nearly - nearly - did an original 32nd Century take on the Excelsior, but this one whispered louder.

Yep. Most of the DSC 32nd century ships have detached nacelles, because, TEH FUTUREZ!! :D
1000 years in the future? Who's to say what we will be capable of. If we manage to survive that long....

First lot of windows is in - saucer rim. Outer ring has three decks worth on the inner curve. That will be so much fun to figure out, lol/ I enjoy the challenge - and hey, I did it on the Windrunner, so I may have been subconsciously prepping for this one. Still lots to do before I move on to the middle ring, formation lights to add and minor hull parts. But yeah, the Raleigh is coming along nicely.

More tomorrow :-)

Talk about a ‘selling point’ for the Detailer/Assignment Officer trying to recruit/find crew for these ships…

AO (on the comm with a recalcitrant Ensign Kim) — ‘Each stateroom has a window…’

ENS Kim — ‘Really? Cool! I’ll take it, then!’

AO — ‘… on the inside rim.’

ENS Kim — ‘Oh.’

Cheers,

Looking great!

So, since this isn't Discovery herself, but a sister ship that I assume was build in the 32nd century, will there be differences from the Discovery as seen in the show?

It would give you a hell of a view when the drive is running and the ring is spinning though.

Of course, Kim would still only be an Ensign in the 32nd Century... lol.

I do appreciate that STO promoted him finally, I do wish his 3D avatar was more flattering. Meh.

Yep, a brand new sister ship, and there are already differences! Without proper ref material (some blueprints would be nice, but I can work without them), I have to flick between screen gabs from Seasons 3 & 4 of DSC, and screen grabs of the model from STO. I've worked with less in the past ;)

Todd Cherniawsky redesigned Discovery for season 3 and also the USS Voyager-J, basing the style on that created by Phillip Barker for the other ships in 32C Starfleet. They are the authors of the style I am trying to capture. Some design cues are hardwired into what I am doing, others are more... fluid. Like programable matter. I want it be clear that this is a newer sister ship, rather than a refit of a thousand year old design. In hindsight, I could have pushed the envelope a bit more. Maybe disconnected the saucer? But... yeah, she is coming together.

And, by now, you know I am a tinkerer, I can't help but try and put some logic to these designs :techman:

A study of the 23C version and the 32C version shows it's panels that rotate, rather then then entire ring. Where the windows are going to be... I think it would be hard to actually see it happen from inside the ship. Also on the 32C version, parts of the ring glow when rotating. It's all fun.

Right - no pics to share, but updates none the less. I got the font wrong for 32C Starfleet. It's Jefferies - a similar font used on the movie ships, but lacking the outline. So that's all been changed. (I build this all in, so I had to rebuild those rings). Rooms behind the windows have been redone and "sit" better. Renders later. Things to play with first :techman:

No idea what 32C Starfleet ships look like on the inside, so this is an update to the "set" I normally use. It will do for now.

Rebuilt the rotating rings, more to get closer to the actual panel detail (I have plans for those rotating and glowing rings) -

As stated, when Spore Jumping, parts of the rings glow -

Outer detail on this part of the hull is done, so will be making a start on the inner ring of windows next. I might also stop rebuilding things and actually progress, lol.

Anyways, comments welcome - more later!

I like your way thinking! Can't wait to see where this will go

i know you're still tweaking and building it, that it's all a work-in-progress, but I was wondering if you were going to add any more 'advancements' to the design?
Many of the 32nd century vessels sport separated hull configurations, not simply just the nacelles. Will you be applying that kind of idea to this 'built from the keel up' modification to the old Crossfield-class spaceframe?

In hindsight I should have thought a little more about this before I started, applying a more 32c ethos to the overall build. I will look at and see what can be done with this build. However, I have it mind to do a 32c version of the Excelsior (Sulu Class?) which will have a separated primary and secondary hull. I have a wild idea for the nacelles for that as well.

But, first this build :-)
