Jayru (JSnaith's) 3D Trek

I like the Oberth well enough, but it has Some Issues that I feel like you've absolutely blasted away with the Clarke. I do not like the Excelsior (which is probably mostly due to the droopiness of the model in SFS), but gosh that Horizon is pretty, wow.

Jaw-dropping!

Thank you!

Thank You you've done some really nice work here and I Appreciate it.:techman::techman::techman::techman::techman:

Thank you!

Which was the whole point of doing these originally - to make the Oberth and Excelsior work. Thank you :-)

More soon!

Ha! What did I forget to build on the Clarke?

Can't see anything missing? Try this one -

The egress hatch!

Now I can do a dockyard scene...

More soon ;-)

The end of an era - the end of my PC. Harvested what I can from the old one, and a new machine will arise from the ashes over the next few days. Long story short - Projects are on hold until I get back up and running.

That doesn't bode well for the motherboard and PSU. Long live the new PC :)
Yeah, the motherboard is what failed along with the PSU, so those are gone. Pain in the backside. Started a render cycle this morning and it popped and died. I can't use my laptop to do rendering as it can't take the strain, so...

New MB, PSU and Case are on the way. Managed to salvage the fans as well and my every resourceful partner checked out what was left of the old PC and declared those parts as "still good." Cheaper to do it this way then buy a whole new rig - which I think would be wasteful. My advice? Keep away from Acer's ConceptD Desktop machines. Mine didn't last a year (and I took very good care of it).

Good luck with rebuilding your machine, as for Acer, I think you just had bad luck, usually Acer isn't all that bad when it comes to quality, also don't you still have warranty on that?

Yeah, we talked about sending it back, but that takes time and whilst I could survive without a big rig, it's a lot of hassle. Plus the partner is an IT expert, so I am leaving the rebuild in his hands.

Ouch. That's a bummer about your relatively young PC. It's a good strategy to build out with a new MB, PSU and case. You'll have flexibility in what you put into it and if you need to upgrade later with a faster CPU+MB or bigger PSU you can.

Their will be some wiggle room for upgrades in future. But the harvested parts are pretty good, so should stay the course. It's not the first time we've done this, just could have done without having to do it now..

Re the projects - I've rebuilt a few things on the Clarke to make her feel more TMP. Also still playing with the texture settings to get the pearlescent effect on the hull. I'm using a blend of a standard materials and architectural ones - Max is fun to play with. I think I've cracked it, just need to check (frustrating? Very).

I REALLY like that spiffy starship of yours, which apparently (and unfortunately) was so hot it fried your ‘puter! :( If it is any consolation, I can tell you from painful personal experience that enforced time away from your workstation will very likely make you absolutely itching with inspiration by the time you’re back up and running again. I for one can’t wait to see what you do with NCC-2661!

I've really enjoyed building both of them. The Horizon is finished from a build POV (aside from the hanger bay). Texture maps? Once I get it right on the Clarke I'll set the Horizon up the same way. The movie era (the first six films) is my favourite time in Trek - aside from TOS. I've very recently splurged on the UHD versions of the films and have been slowly working my way through them and the the extras. It is joyful to watch them - I even love the odd numbered films! BUT, getting the thread back on track, their is a wicked rumour going around that I might be about to rebuild the USS Odysseus, NCC-2601. That would be an interesting build, I have the Ingram plans now, so... Yes, we shall see. I can't see myself taking 10+ years to do it this time, lol.

lovely work
Thank you!

I see that your computer issues have been resolved in record time! Gorgeous work. :techman:
Once the old stuff was plugged into the new MB and PSU it was just switch on, make sure I had the right drivers and carry on :-) Windows is a lot more forgiving these days. I wish I could say Autodesk was. That was a friggen nightmare. But it's all sorted now.

And I've put some guides in place...

I'm NOT building a perfect to plan Ingram, but rather I am going to try and rebuild the USS Odysseus which was kind of based off the Ingram design. I prob could do a more accurate version now, but... Lets see if I can bring the old girl back to life. Hunting through my emails to see what I have from Todd, as he did some logos for the ship I built. Would be nice to use them.

Anyways, more soon :-)
