Are we branding people as "alt-right" now because they aren't particularly a fan of ONE character?

I consider myself as center-left in my views (a political leaning which is dying out in the face of two extremes, because nobody is allowed to be moderate in their views anymore, goddamnit)

I wasn't a fan of Connolly and don't care that he's gone. But the trolling of people with different views really needs to stop on this forum. I don't care which side it is that's doing it, have a civil discussion or stop talking, because it's just as tiresome and eye-rolling seeing trolling from the far left as it is the alt-right.

    Sigh

OK ... now that you've gotten that off your chest, what would you like to add about the Topic at Hand?

Do you want to see Kirk show up in some fashion or not?

I already stated that I don't want to see Kirk in discovery because likely they will write Michael Burnham into his backstory and it's just not needed, Spock appearing is fine, it makes sense with the sarek connection but Kirk would simply be pandering.

If you go back and look at the chain of communication you will see that I was responding to someone who disagreed with my opinion and accused me in a round about way of being "alt-right". The argument that anyone who isn't a huge fan of the writing of Burnham is a MAGE hat wearing racist, fascist trump supporter needs to go. This is a discussion forum, people are allowed to have opinions without everything becoming political. I have been here over 10 years and it's only in the last 18 months it's gotten like this, and frankly i'm tired of it.

Anyone who aim's this stuff at me again is going to go straight on ignore.

According to the writer's bible Kirk was the youngest captain. Yes, he would be noticed.

Don't need to say this. Just ignore it and let things go on.

It's the Internet and not personal.

OK, well in that case, my only advice would be to not take things posted here to heart.
Remember you don't have to live with with these folks, you only have to take a moment or two to read what chit comes out of our brains and move on.
    :techman:

Just to add a thought, 99% of what DISCOVERY is giving us isn't 'needed' in the Trek Universe.

But it's what the current Producers have decided to give us.

I don't know about you, but I prefer that They continue to create Star Trek TV shows and Movies so that I can continue to enjoy whatever They give us.

It's a whole lot better than nothing.

    YMMV

Plus isn't it against the forum rules?

I don't see anything in the rules about not using the ignore function which is built in for a reason

I do however see these two rules

    - No flaming. You can't call someone an ass or even use a tame term. If it's getting personal, step away from the computer.

    - No trolling. This means don't post stuff that you know will enrage someone in hopes of getting them to flame you back.

I'd say accusing someone of being "alt-right" which is a derogatory term and a very serious accusation to make of someone who doesn't carry those views, does break both of those rules

Allow me to clarify since there is a misunderstanding. It isn't against the rules to ignore posters but it is against the rules to tell a poster you are ignoring them. I belief it is considered a form of trolling, but a mod would better able to answer that.

And, if you think someone has broken the rules there's that handy, dandy, Report button.

Again, just trying to help out. People have accused me of being "alt right" to my face and I can ignore that. I know its hard but I think its worth it to apply it here.

If you feel have to go looking for Forum Rules and then post them to expound upon your distaste for what's being posted...

Then perhaps it really is time to take a deep breath and step away from the keyboard for a couple of minutes.

We'll still be here and we all understand now exactly what you find distasteful when you come back.
Most of us, will attempt to keep the mood light, just ignore the rest.

To clarify, I wasn't calling you "alt-right". I was more or less referencing the contingent of fans that perceive things like Connolly dying (after being snooty at Burnham) as an attack on white straight males. Much like how we had a thread shut down earlier from an OP who thought Mirror Georgiou referring to "puny male minds" was the show more or less expressing misandry.

I quoted you not because I "disagreed" with you but because you basically gave me the amusing idea of having Kirk be talked down by Burnham, and how that contingent of fans would predictably respond. I don't really want something like that to happen on the show, but even if a small hint of that plays out and that contingent reacts outrageously, I'll be breaking out the popcorn. I only said "alt-right" because while most haters of Burnham are not alt-right, most alt-rights certainly are haters, at least from what I've read. You know, those that keep spouting about "PC casting","feminist agenda", "white genocide", etc. And like I said, I was only half kidding anyway.

So if you perceived my response as lumping you in the "alt-right" camp, I apologize and should have made it clear you weren't being targeted or anything. Hope that resolves that.

To be fair, TOS had exaggerated acting across both genders. Frightened and vulnerable man needing solace from a woman? Well Discovery has given us that already with Tyler. We've also seen it before with Odo.

Spock was one of the two officers that recommended no further contact with Talos IV. He signed off along with Pike on the report to Starfleet.

It also says the Enterprise was the only ship to visit. Which means it will have to be the one to go back.

So that means if the Talosians show up on Disco, Michael and company will have to venture to Talos on the Enterprise. So maybe we will see the interior of the Big E, including the bridge, after all. ;)

Though I'd resigned myself to it probably looking like the Enterprise-A bridge with some tweaks, the picture of Number One and Captain Pike going over the pad in what looks like Neo-Midcentury Style gives me hope that the new Enterprise bridge, while not looking like the TOS bridge, won't look like one of the TOS Movie bridges either.

My ideal version of the TOS bridge -- if they were to make it look like it would've been done in the '60s if they had the budget -- would've been to make it look 2001: A Space Odyssey inspired, with Disco-style computer displays.
