Spoilers Jack Crusher's "Accelerated Training Program"

Add him to the list!

Okay I’ll bite. How is Worf a nepobaby, Sergei was enlisted lol

I assume that the majority of Starfleet is teaching people how to run a starship and live in space with some element of officer and diplomacy training. Jack has been living on a starship and running it with his mom for most of his life. He just needs to learn about being a Starfleet officer. Plus Starfleet would probably be eager to fast track the son of two admirals who just saved Earth yet again.

Plus, Frontier Day made Wolf359 look like a non event in comparison. Everyone who still has a pulse will be assigned to a starship.

jack was rigth on the nepotism part.

His teachers hated him for being snarky and acting like he already knew everything, but he never actually broke any rules. So they carted him off to a starship to get rid of him.

IIRC, he was a Chief, like O’Brien. Being a Chief never seemed to prevent O’Brien from having the kind of contacts that could potentially smooth things for his children if they ever pursued a Starfleet career, so one could presume the same was also true for Sergey.

But I wouldn’t take it too, too seriously, it’s just poking a bit of fun. :)

With Jack’s experience, he’s a real asset. Starfleet was smart to get him.

Yes, agreed. I don't know why this is even a question. He wasn't sitting around on a couch for 20+ years waiting to sign up for Starfleet. He was having myriad space adventures. It makes perfect sense that he wouldn't need to sit through the full training course.

He studied at Oxford, has a degree, can pilot and maintain a ship, hold his own in a fight, speaks multiple languages, can do some field medical care, etc. He isn’t a green 16 or 18 year old. An accelerated training program and a post as Ensign isn’t that far fetched.

Seven of Nine has been in Starfleet for 4 or 5 years and she is already an O6. That's fast.
Less than that. She was still a Fenris Ranger in 2399, when Season 1 takes place. Season 3 takes place at the end of 2401. She's formally been in Star Fleet 2 1/2 years max. However, Star Fleet often gives the equivalent of 'life experience' credits to those who've done exceptional things, so Seven being XO on the Titan and now the Captain of Enterprise G fits.

Jack getting into an accelerated program.. that has to be nepotism. The boy should be in prison, seeing as he went to the Borg voluntarily, not fast tracked through Star Fleet.

I dunno, Wes had a lot of “real world” experience on the Enterprise and he had to start from scratch as a cadet.

Seven-of-Nine has only been in Starfleet for 1 1/2 years. She was not in Starfleet during Season 2. In fact, she had revealed that Janeway had tried and failed to get her into Starfleet during that season. For me, this is just bad writing in order to make Seven a high-ranking Starfleet officer. I realize many of you don't mind, but I cannot accept this. End of story.

Most of the TNG cast with the exception of Geordi and Troi should be in prison for some of the stunts they pulled in TNG.

All of them should be, at minimum, given dishonorable discharges after Insurrection.

Consequences work differently in the 24th century Starfleet, we all know that

It's more nepotism than bad writing.

We've seen time and time again that Starfleet is as much a merit-based organization as anything else and that it's not uncommon for someone to be pushed well ahead of others because of their abilities or noteworthy actions. I'm not trying to open up that certain can of worms, but Jack becoming an officer in only a year and Seven going from a civilian to captain of the Enterprise in just a few years indicates that Starfleet is sometimes more like a corporation and maneuvers people they want not long from off the street (or even prison) directly into management positions, IMO.

Even in The Voyage Home, they had the President (probably acting in his nominal role of Supreme Commander-in-Chief of all Federation forces) directly give the crew amnesty and commute their dishonorable discharges for stealing the Enterprise among other charges.

Stealing the Enterprise, disobeying multiple orders, violating Genesis quarantine, destroying the Enterprise, hindering prosecution, obstruction of justice..

And that is just the start

Frankly the only reason he probably didn't start as a lieutenant was to avoid more obvious nepotism accusations.
