Spoilers Jack Crusher's "Accelerated Training Program"

The problem is is that Wesley didn't even go through the academy..he just got to start flying the Enterprise, Picard then goes "Ya know I'm just gonna make you an officer now" and completely bypassed that..

Until he didn't and had to start over as Cadet NoRank in the Academy.

I mean, a yeoman is basically the captain's administrative assistant. I don't think that's what Jack's job is going to be.
its a good idea, I think. his job is pretty much undefined, anyway. might as well give him dogsbody tasks to keep him from flirting with laforge or geting lacrimose about life or whatever

I mean, you can chose not to accept it if you want, but in real life people can be commissioned to advanced ranks in recognition of an extraordinary record of service and accomplishment in other defense organizations. Seven of Nine's career more than warrants being commissioned directly to commander.
Sure. She might be able to immediately obtain high grade on the basis of her technical expertise. But she has consistently been shown to lack leadership abilities. How does she become an XO, let alone a CO, of a ship in such short time? Her girlfriend is more qualified even when her issues with chemical dependency are considered.

It strikes me as a waste of talent to have him perform tasks that are automated as a matter of course.

As much as the writers took liberties putting Wesley in the driver's seat, there are opportunities for young people to get effective experience with military culture, procedures and technology: JROTC, Sea Cadets, Civil Air Patrol, Cyber Patriot, flight schools, leadership programs. Depending on their success, the students would be able to enter with a rank as high as E4.

Sure, but they don't let 16-year-olds helm the USS Gerald R. Ford. ;)

I think Seven only put Jack in that seat since that was the only unoccupied chair on the bridge.

srsly, there's lots of things Jack could do. He's smart enough for almost any career track in Starfleet. I predict, tho, that he'll either be a doctor (like his mother) or a security/tactical officer (due to his obvious fighting skills).

They gave him a red uniform.
I think she sat him there so she can keep an eye on him. ;)

I wouldn't analyze Jack's placement in the bridge's "Deanna chair" too much. The whole thing was just meant to be a gender-swapped version of TNG, this time with female Captain and XO and male officer with the word "counselor" in the job title.

I mean absolutely no disrespect but..being a counselor is one of the LAST things I'd ever expect Jack to actually do.

I wonder if Jack still has the ability to enter people's minds, or if that was filtered out as part of the fleet-wide deBorgification.

Enterprise G is looking for a motivated recruit who likes challenges and works well with others for a bridge position on our exciting renamed new ship.

Candidate Must:
A: Feel Comfortable Around X-Borg. Hey, aren't we all anyway, these days?
B: Have parental connections
C: Posess or be able to mimic an authentic Brench accent
D: Refuse any offers by The Traveller to go places with him
E: Sign an Oath of Celibacy in the presence of Commodore La Forge

Duties Include:
A: Counseling the machine that goes ping
B: Emailing mom and dad that things are great on the ship, every couple of days
C: Cleaning the holodeck. Mostly C, actually.
