Is it worth watching Disc?

I feel like the Klingon ships would've been sooooo much better as 32nd century starships. The Qoj class looks like what a D7 design could evolve into eventually, if the Klingons have a Giger phase.

I also have a strange fondness for the Batlh class, which I affection dub the "Klingon space bus".

I really like those designs and like it more that they appeared aged and almost passed down, a reflection of the "resource poor" worlds that Klingons hail from that lead to their expansionist philosophy.

If one is feeling so inclined, one could easily take Discovery Season 1 and 2 as holonovels Burnham created in the 32nd century with artistic license thrown in, like the more monstrous look of the Klingons.

That's not bad, I quite like that.

I've been reluctant to watch Discovery since... well, since I was made aware of its existence. I've heard some pretty bad things about it, but I've also heard people only hate it because it's new. I've recently been considering giving it a try, though. Is it actually any good/worth watching?
See for yourself. More people like it than not, but there are lots of vocal haters.

Well. Did you ever watch it? 😂

I'm a bit late to this thread. But I gave the show a chance. I did end up watching every episode. The first three seasons were not all that good to me. But I hung on and actually liked season 4 and 5 was my favorite. The show had a lot of problems from day one. They literally ignored certain styling cues to tie them into TOS/Berman Trek. Golden colored Klingons with 4 nostrils..Elongated heads and completely bald. Producers tried to say later after the fact that it could have been different houses Klingons and that Klingons Shave their heads during war...blah blah blah. They were trying to cover up their ego driven changes. Changes to try to make Trek their own. But if one continues a beloved franchise they should adhere to some basic rules. Many of which they totally ignored. They later went back to a more TMP movie era Klingon look and I don't want to say what they did season three to get around not adhering to basic story continuity since you may not have watched it. But you could probably guess.

They made some other huge blunders before season 4 that I thought was totally ridiculous and that they could never explain. This won't ruin it for you but the turbolift interiors are larger than the entire exterior of the ships in DISCO and SNW. Something I cannot support or wrap my head around. It makes no practical sense. I don't know what the hell they were thinking when they made that choice. And a season 3 reveal that was just plain bad.

There were some things I liked during the first three seasons. Favorite Characters. Saru, Stamets, Culber. Sadly much of the Discovery crew never got too much spotlight or their own episodes. It was Mostly Michael, Saru,Tilly, Book (3-5) Statmets and Culber.

I literally gave up by season 4 but soldiered on. Finally though season 4 i ended up liking. Disco was finally starting to feel a bit more Trek. Season 5 was even better to me.

So is it worth watching? I guess. I doubt it will ever become as Beloved as some other Trek shows.
I think of it as an alternate timeline. Maybe one branched off from the myriad of timeline shenanigans that Starfleet was involved with over the years.

My parents cancelled their P+ subscription, and because I'm still in early high school I can't afford to buy a subscription for myself just to watch Disc.
It's a good show and I can really recommend it. That doesn't mean anything, though, since I have a strange taste, when it comes to sources of entertainment, but IMHO, it's quite good. If you ask me: Season 2 is, where the show isn't as depressingly dark - but season 1 has some good moments, too. If you're a person, who's not into dark story-telling, I recommend "skip season 1, wait for season 2." If you're a completionist, you can of course start with Season 1.

I'm sorry. That sucks. Maybe if they do a free trial or reduced monthly payment you can give it a go later. If it makes you feel any better I still think of DS9 as the highpoint of Trek. 😁 So you are not missing the best Trek with not seeing Disco.. 😊

It's okay, lol. I have yet to watch DS9 as well, but that one is still available to me. Have been wanting to check it out for a while, in fact. :)

It's awesome. The first season is not the greatest but once it hits its stride in the 2nd it just gets better and better. In fact the show has one of my all time favorite Trek episodes. Maybe my favorite.

Which episode was that?

Can they give you a subscription for XMAS for a certain amount of time that you could binge it all in? On the website it says:
"Save 50% on monthly plans for 3 months
or annual plans for 1 year, then the regular price applies.
Offer ends 3/12/24."

Oh, yeah, good idea! I'll ask them. :)

Absolutely. If the Klingons don't look like this, it's not real Star Trek.
