Is it worth watching Disc?

Absolutely. If the Klingons don't look like this, it's not real Star Trek.

This.

Right here.

TMP forward is discarded.

I hated the writing. Have no affection for most of the characters.

The different Klingons? Didn't mind as much honestly. TOS Klingons are nothing at all like TNG/DS9 Klingons, makeup aside. The TOS Klingons don't have a shred of honor and are absolutely vile. They don't care about honor one bit. Even Kang was probably the best and perfectly willing to kill Kirk and the bridge crew by shutting off life support.

Similarly Koloth has no problem being part of a plan to poison the grain in Trouble with Tribbles. Kor also was not as interested in honor. Krell and the rest are more of the same. Kruge has the makeup more or or less and is still more of the same. They're a mixture of Soviet and Mongol and act like it.

I much preferred the John Ford idea of Klingons with Imperial and hybrid Janissary races. That ship sailed, though I like to think of Japan. The TOS Klingons were WW2 Imperial Japanese who may mention the word now and then but have very little in common with the Samurai. DS9 was a brief experiment of the post Praxis period being a restoration that didn't work out. That and we saw one faction/culture and no problem with the hairless more monstrous ones being from another continent on the same planet.

That said, it's the least of the problems with Disco. Technology is too advanced, bridges are too large, etc. The whole thing works much better if the whole thing had been set in the far future (32nd century) and get rid of the unnecessary connections to Spock, etc.

Just go 26th and call it good.

And relationship to a Vulcan can be Tuvok's son.

Never said that Brah. People can deny it all they want. After TMP redesigned them they had a similar consistent aesthetic there on. Yes hair length changed, random bumps, etc but as far as I know they didn't end up getting two extra nostrils and a weird shaped head and all their clothing and ships turned into looking like a bad version of Asgard. ENT had an excellent two part episode of the klingon changes. From that time period. But oh no discovery had to crap on it with adding another wrench in the works. Thanks ST: Discovery... 😏

It doesn't do anything to explain the variation across the years. TMP is a different animal to TSFS to TUC. And that was an explanation decades after the fact.

So, no, Discovery didn't do anything wrong. TMP did, TNG did, etc.

A step too far for some fans. But no further than TOS to TMP. The mutli-decades of Berman Trek cemented that look in the minds of fans.
Indeed, yes.

The only challenge that I see with Discovery make up is the limits it puts on the actors. So, reduce it down for the actors sake, but I love the creativity shown. Klingons have such a variety of phenotypes across the history of the franchise I don't see the issue with having variables.

Are you kidding me. The variation between Tsfs and TUC was not nearly as bad as what discovery had. No one said Klingons had to look exactly the same. Someone put a comparison picture up a while back and Discos stood out. The others were small variations of TMP Klingons. ENT most certainly did explain it well. The cranial bumps.

Ent said it was due to an augment virus. The TMP bumps don't line up with TUC and the significant variations of phenotypes.

Plus, TMP had no explanation for decades.

Discovery may have been a change but it was as extreme as TMP from TOS. The explanation is a catch all band aid.

Twenty-five years actually. TMP came out December 1979, the explanation on Enterprise came February 2005. So with Disco premiering September 2017, we aren't due an explanation for their Klingons until November 2042 and no bitching is permitted prior to then.

I didn't know bitching about the TMP/TNG Klingons was banned for all that time. I just assumed people were generally won over by the new makeup, at least by the time Christopher Lloyd and Michael Dorn were wearing it, and the acknowledgement in Trials and Tribble-ations that the TOS Klingons existed too was a surprising and welcome bonus. We had a good thing and it just got better.

Then Disco came along and... well, I'm not allowed to bitch until November 2042.

Won over?

Not really. Lloyd's was odd and Dorn was just there.

It got better by TUC.
