If you could disallow one episode.....

I would get rid of that episode where Spock loses his brain. When McCoy walks his body around on remote control I just want to laugh.

"The Way to Eden"

though I found this interesting.
Originally, the episode was titled "Joanna," and was written by D.C. Fontana, the title character being Dr. McCoy's daughter. Later, she was changed to Irina, and Chekov, instead, was made her foil.

The Empath
Huh? Is this becoming a list of my favorite Trek episodes? I love both of them! Really. I mean, I can see how someone can't enjoy "Eden" on a mere trash level. But "The Empath"? This is a true trek story that really has a meaning, IMHO. But everyone is entitled to love or hate what they want. Just to say it again: I'd get rid of "The Omega Glory". It's Roddenberry at his worst!

The Empath is a favorite of mine as well: All three Trek 'principals' put on great performances in that ep. and you really get to see the bond between Kirk, Spock, and McCoy portrayed. Plus, it was a very strong DeForest Kelly ep--always a plus for me.

The Way to Eden is horribly dated, but amusing in a 60s sort of way.

If I have to pick an episode that I would throw away, it would be "And the Children Should Lead..." Melvin Belli should have stuck to being a shyster lawyer. :)

Spock's Brain was good camp: "Brain and brain and brain!"

Turnabout Intruder wasn't the best note for the show to leave on and is dated and would be number 2 on my toss list.

It is hilarious, especially when you notice that the remote has something like eight buttons. Okay, there's the WALK FWD button, the STOP WALKING button, TURN L, TURN R, REACH OUT WITH ONE HAND AND GRASP NEARBY OBJECT, and... um... YODEL, CLICK VOLUME UP, and CLICK VOLUME DOWN.

DEFINATELY: Turnabout intruder... that one just was shitty all the way around and horribly written..

NOT spock's brain... that was campy and funny... I thought it was amusing... The remote control bit was funny. I wonder how many times they had to redo that and Nimoy broke up on camera.

My second choice would be: And the children should lead. Melvin Beli and Star TRek Just don't mix. Although it was interesting.

My fav episodes was This way to Eden... good campy sixities fun...

Another good Mccoy and strong Kelley -performance was the episode the World is hollow and I have touched the sky.

The mention of the Fabricini Medicine from that episode actually did show up in the Motion picture and when Mccoy left Starfleet angrily after Kirk was forced to Admiral.
He went and became a surface dweller, and researched the medical symbols from that culture they put back on course in the asteroid.

^So it's true. It really does take all kinds. Somewhere out there is a fan who un-ironically considers "Spock's Brain" to be a genuine SF classic and "City on the Edge of Forever" to be shite. I'd like to meet that fan.

The Empath may have strong performances from the big three but there is not enough action and the story seemed a little over the top...
I agree with DavidFalkayn that Turnabout Intruder was a bad episode and horrible choice to end the series with.
And the Children Shall Lead is another bad episode.

You should make this a poll, Warped 9

I think "Operation Annihilate!" should be erased from TOS. (Woulfe!) ;)

How could you want to get rid of an episode with flying rubber puke as the antagonist? :p

I take it this was in the novelization? I remember liking the novel quite a bit, though its been a few years since I skimmed it.

Yes it was in the novel, when Mcoy came aboard Enterprise. Roddenberry described Mccoy and what he had been doing.

Also, Amok time and Assignment Earth and Tommorrow is Yesterday, though a bit slow did have some significant stor lines one was bout the vulcans and traditions. (rituals) the other two was changing Earth that would significantly change the future. As was the one with Edith Keeler, that The guardian had stood up the ship as collateral, the change Mccoy made was significant and it did change and affect the time stream.

More useless trivia. If you did not see that and catch the meaning, maybe perhaps review.

 Wow, this thread is really old.

BUT: One more chance to say "Get rid of The Omega Glory!"

For me it has always been The Empath. boring boring boring, did I mention boring? That and The Alternative Factor, it was fun to read people's low opinion of this one when the TOS-R aired, the best suggestion was to cut it into 2 inch pieces and throw them up in the air and put it back together.

^ :scream: But The Empath is a classic! I don't find it boring AT ALL. But obviously YMMV.

"The Alternative Factor." (Lazarus)

A complete logical mess with cheesy, wooden acting and almost no explanation that makes sense. The time ships/portal gateways are really corny and poorly done, and even Shatner and Nimoy wear too much eyeshadow.
