Originally, the episode was titled "Joanna," and was written by D.C. Fontana, the title character being Dr. McCoy's daughter. Later, she was changed to Irina, and Chekov, instead, was made her foil.

"The Way to Eden"
Huh? Is this becoming a list of my favorite Trek episodes? I love both of them! Really. I mean, I can see how someone can't enjoy "Eden" on a mere trash level. But "The Empath"? This is a true trek story that really has a meaning, IMHO. But everyone is entitled to love or hate what they want. Just to say it again: I'd get rid of "The Omega Glory". It's Roddenberry at his worst!Sulu_Love_Child said:

I would get rid of that episode where Spock loses his brain. When McCoy walks his body around on remote control I just want to laugh.![]()

The Empath is a favorite of mine as well: All three Trek 'principals' put on great performances in that ep. and you really get to see the bond between Kirk, Spock, and McCoy portrayed. Plus, it was a very strong DeForest Kelly ep--always a plus for me.
The Way to Eden is horribly dated, but amusing in a 60s sort of way.
If I have to pick an episode that I would throw away, it would be "And the Children Should Lead..." Melvin Belli should have stuck to being a shyster lawyer.
Spock's Brain was good camp: "Brain and brain and brain!"
Turnabout Intruder wasn't the best note for the show to leave on and is dated and would be number 2 on my toss list.
How could you want to get rid of an episode with flying rubber puke as the antagonist?Vulcanian said:
You should make this a poll, Warped 9
I think "Operation Annihilate!" should be erased from TOS. (Woulfe!)![]()

Another good Mccoy and strong Kelley -performance was the episode the World is hollow and I have touched the sky.
The mention of the Fabricini Medicine from that episode actually did show up in the Motion picture and when Mccoy left Starfleet angrily after Kirk was forced to Admiral.
He went and became a surface dweller, and researched the medical symbols from that culture they put back on course in the asteroid.

I take it this was in the novelization? I remember liking the novel quite a bit, though its been a few years since I skimmed it.
Yeah, no matter how many times i watch it i can't help but giggle like a crazy peron when those whitches are talking/singing to Spock,Kirk and BonesCatspaw.
