If there was an S3 of Short Treks, what do you expect to see?

Sorry, maybe I'm misreading it, but saying "won't happen" pretty much reads as conversation killer to me. As in, not worth discussing as it probably won't happen time of conversation killer.

Edited because I think I'm misunderstanding.

Just because I think it won't happen doesn't mean I'm telling people not to discuss it. I thought that was obvious.

Well, that’s your choice. No one is forcing you to stop posting because other people aren’t automatically toting your line.

No. Its that its very tired to always see that the default answer to an idea is that no one want to see it. Or the characters aren’t popular and not worth bringing back. Even though the suggestions are in support of the shows on the air. Then we see what some people produce what they think fans want to see or is popular and it sometimes misses the mark or is received badly. There’s nothing fun about that, or having to once again debate why various suggested ideas should be considered.

I wasn’t asking for an Enterprise-B show starring Alan Ruck. Its probably too late for that as too much time has passed, barring animation. And if a character needs to be recast for the Short Trek, okay, since these aren’t major characters to begin with.

But I don’t see the big deal in using a few of these minor legacy characters from TUC and GEN – movies from a popular time in Star Trek history, the same popularity that is the reason for giving fans more Kirk, Spock, Picard and the rest of TNG - to tell a story that can relate to the current shows. In this case, a future season of DIS, as the Discovery crew have their history with Klingons and the crew relying on the experiences of their peers of that era (Harriman, both Sulus, Chekov, Scotty, Spock, Kirk, Uhura, Chapel) during the early days of peace with the Klingon Empire will help them understand how they handled adjusting to peacefully coexisting with the Klingons when they eventually meet them again. Since they aren’t going to read up on 900 years of Federation-Klingon history. And if the writers cannot make such a story fit, that’s not on me.

So far, any actually thoughts and feelings the Discovery crew may have on Romulans as the crew understood them, Archer’s era, and what happens to Pike and Sarek always end up being buried. I don’t see why this needs to now be extended to Klingons, especially when the Discovery crew were interacting with Klingons before they jumped to the 32nd century.

Now, if you personally don’t care to see a Short Trek with such characters, fine. But don’t speak for the whole fanbase when you reject the idea. Especially when today’s Star Trek likes to use Easter eggs to callback to previous shows and movies. And mainly the hardcore fans are the ones that watched Short Treks anyways, since its not aimed at a casual audience.

You misunderstand. I have no feelings one way or the other about what they choose to make. If they made a Short Trek about Harriman on the Enterprise-B, I'd be fine with it. My point was that the Short Trek format so far has just been one-off stories that utilized already existing production assets and characters. They weren't about other eras or characters that the current shows weren't already focused on. And extrapolating from that, it would be highly doubtful that they would bring back a one-off character from 30 years ago (and the actor who originally portrayed him) and create period-specific sets, props, costumes and models for a seven-minute short, unless they were planning on making a new show utilizing all of that stuff. And Harriman simply isn't that popular enough of a character for that. That's not 'speaking for the whole fanbase;' that's just thinking logically.

Unless the Short Trek was animated, of course. Then they could get away with all that. But I don't think that's what we're talking about here.

I would use them to showcase the legacy characters. I don’t need ones on characters that already have a tv show.

They should do a Short Trek of the NX-01 crew in a bar to celebrate Archer running for some Federation position.
They should do a Short Trek of the Voyager crew in a bar to celebrate Harry's promotion to Lieutenant.
They should do a Short Trek of the DS9 crew at the Bajoran Gratitude festival, or perhaps they could just visit Bajor and visit some bar.

Or they could make a Cheers episode on the holodeck and bring back all those characters. Has about as much chance of happening as all of the above.

New series?

STAR TREK: FRIDAY NIGHT AT 10 FORWARD
starring Whoopi Goldberg

I loved the parts of PIC S1 set on Earth. I also loved the Children of Mars short trek. Brilliant.

I'd like more of these set in everyday life, on Earth or elsewhere.

I miss the short trek format. We will never see the two kids from Children of Mars again and that was a bit of a missed opportunity. We could have had a Short Trek that showed the immediate aftermath in the days and months ahead for those two characters.

The format is fantastic for short stories. It's the ultimate visualization of fan fiction.

I want to see a LOGAN type ending for Picard like Xavier got.
Have it be Riker & Picard
Just like Logan & Xavier.
Shot in B&W and color both.
And feature Sir Ian McKellen as the villain (hey why not? Shoot big)
I really thought he was gonna be the big bad on PIC3 till they announced it was a female and crushed that dream. (Tho Amanda Plummer is fantastic so far!)
So give me one more Butch & Sundance with Riker & Picard.
But do it in a short trek without dragging it on needlessly.

-- Followup with Nhan following the completion of her mission aboard the seed vault ship.

I suppose there could be a Short Trek on that, Nhan's missions against the Emerald Chain. Although DIS is over, the fourth season is over, and I’m not sure how it would tie into the show. Unless it ties into Starfleet Academy.

Considering how often Archer and the NX-01 are namedropped, and

they’ve officially made a CGI model of the refit, and a copy and paste fleet could reflect early Federation

that should be possible.

Maybe even have Archer be in favour of the Crossfield class and approving of research into the spore drive. ;)

Or they could make a Cheers episode on the holodeck and bring back all those characters. Has about as much chance of happening as all of the above.

Actually, seeing Captain Bateson using the holodeck to interact with his friends he left behind could be compelling.

I’d love to see a Short Trek set during Will Riker’s time in command of the USS Titan!

This should be also possible.

Also, one set on the Enterprise B or C
They broke out the monster maroons in the SNW finale. So it's possible.
