I can understand Pine wanting more money but Hemsworth? All his non Marvel movies bomb badly. He should see himself lucky Studios want to hire him at all.
My understanding is that Paramount isn't in a position to self finance ST4, they have to have outside investors (China?). For this they need a big draw, Hemsworth is that draw.

Replacing Pine would require a fairly big heavy hitter established leading man with a known track history.

They tried it in Bourne franchise, it didn't workout too well. Ask Paramount if they would consider replacing Tom Cruise in MI franchise?
Trek will be dead if they try to replace Pine as Kirk. They are better off cancelling ST4 to save faith

But is he? My point being is that his other movies don’t do very well.
He’s also a tad too old now to play him, since it was 10 years ago when he played him last.

Interesting way of looking at it, if you exclude all of his movies that made tremendous box-office, then he doesn't make good box-office?

Could we do the same with Chris Pine, you know exclude the movies that make good box-office and then say he doesn't pull in good box-office?

I think people's point is that he plays one of the main characters in the MCU, which as we all know is very successful. Outside of that role he doesn't even headline a movie, let alone said movies pulling in big money.

I think it's a fair point.

It really isn't. The Marvel films have pretty much been the whole careers of the actors over the last decade. Look at the other Avenger heads: RDJ and ScarJo have both had films outside of Marvel and they were duds (notoriously so in the latter's case) and I don't think Evans has done much of anything. And yet Star Trek would undoubtedly bend over backward to have any of them.

So what's your point? You agree that their movies outside of the MCU tend to flop so what's to be gained from hiring them?

It has nothing to do with movies outside MCU, it has everything to do WITH MCU

So yeah, they are going to want to get as much from the 1st into the 2nd as possible.

trying to imagine that poster if Nemesis had been a rousing success and spawned Spiners 'Trek Avengers' movie - (Kirk/Picard instead of Cap/IronMan, Spock/Thor, Sisko/BlackPanther, Archer/Strange, Sulu/Spidey, Data/starlord, 7of9/Scarjo, Worf/Hulk, Tpol/Gamora, Troi/ScarletWitch etc etc and whichever Khan like bad guy/Thanos. Starfleet insignia instead of the 'A', and little Enterprises A, E, NX-01, Voyager, Defiant dotted about)..or alternatively Generations done right (with Soran/Thanos) , or an Enterprise movie had Enterprise been a huge hit and done 7 years (Archer/Picard-Cap/Ironman etc) or maybe orcis ST3 on crack anniversary movie featuring Shatner/nimoy and some TNG crew along with the JJ cast (Idris as a klingon villain/Thanos)

None of this makes any sense. Bringing in Hemsworth is no guarantee of success or draw. How much of Paramount's money are we wanting to gamble with here?

Definitely no guarantee bringing in Hemsworth again - buuuut I’d personally be very excited to see him reprise his role!

Heck - at this stage in the development journey, just simply seeing a fourth Trek movie actually reach the big screen would get me excited! :P

I’m desperately hoping it doesn’t fall through!

As long as a great story is crafted around his return, then fine, do it, but throwing millions at an actor who has zero track record of box office success outside of the MCU when the budget is already tight smacks of desperation to me, and could compromise the story. I can't say I'm that bothered about Kirk resolving his daddy issues that much. I thought it was paid off enough in Beyond to be honest.

I hope I'm made to eat my words, as I really want another movie.

Having to write a whole new script at this point and still get a movie made by 2020 would be equally desperate.
