I prefered Nemesis

The problem as I see it is simply this:

In Nemesis, we are asked to believe that someone that looks like a 17 year old kid is going to tangle and hold his own with a respected mature captain like Picard, AND we are asked to believe that this person IS Picard, only younger?

It just doesn't work. Like I said before, it may have worked on Paper, but it didn't transfer to the big screen. The sad thing is that there's simple things they could have done to fix this problem. For one, don't be pretentious in your introduction of the character. What was with the waiting 18hr or whatever it was, and then all the secrecy about who he is, even to the last moment when he slowwwwwwwwwly steps into the light for the big reveal that....gasp!......he looks just like Picard . What was this supposed to prove? Was it some lame attempt at trying to convince the audience that this person was Picard's clone? Why is he bald? Why is he taking FOREVER to get shit done????

But...but...they gave him the fake nose to match Stewart and everything!

Tentacle, do you/have you had any teenaged sons?

Re the cars: If they really wanted to float my boat - try the current model Ford FPV XR8 in pristine condition in the 23rd Century, and I'm in. Although I reckon, on the performance and reliability of my 2003 model seduce red 3ltr V6 Ford Escape - that'll still be running in 200 years for sure :techman:

Yes, I admit it - I love my Ford!!!! DH drives an Focus XR5 Turbo. Go the mighty blue Oval!!!
Oh no! Im a woman who likes cars!!!

That's why our daughter has done ju jit su.

I just got myself a Ford G6E Turbo. The thing is a rocket. I think it probably eats most V8's for breakfast :D

I'm not familiar with that model.

Here's a review.

And in case you think it looks like a pensioners car, here are some performance figures -

0-100km/h: 5.1 seconds
0-400m: 13.4 seconds
Top speed after 400m: 172km/h

That's BMW M3 territory baby, and at a fraction of the cost! :techman:

^^^ That's not bad for a V6, even a Turboed one.

I didn't see a HP figure anywhere there, but it takes the typical Sedan sized vehicle around 300bhp to achieve a 5.1sec 0-100km. 350hp if it's relatively heavy.

As for beating V8's, maybe older ones from the 80's and 90's (where V8's were purposely underpowered from the factory) but any V8 made in 2000+ is going to at least match it in horsepower. Anything from 2005+ is going to smack it around like a rag doll :)

It's an in-line (straight) six, not a bent one.

And stock it packs 270 kw (about 362 bhp).

Re: the V8's. The new FG model 6 cyl turbo Falcons are all consistently faster than their V8 bretherin and more economical too. It's also faster than the rival Commodore SS 6.0 L V8, though some of the HSV & FPV models are faster, but they are third-party technically, not stock so..

Not too different to the Ford Falcon FPV. If I was tech savvy, I'd attach a link (where's a teenager when you need one?)

172kph - Nowhere here that I could do that speed and not risk loosing my licence. Legal max speed 110kph.:)

ETA: DH went for the 2.5lt 5cylinder XR5 Turbo as he travels around 800-900km/week, so costs less to run than the 6 cylinder 4ltr XR6.

Who will be King of the Mountain this October?

I preferred Nemesis to the new movie. Actually, I think "Star Trek" is the worst of the 11 films. I doubt I will never watch it again.

You are in the small population minority. Only one Trek movie ever has gotten near as good as critic rave as this one. Seems like the only people that hate this movie are very small amount of Trek fans.

it may have worked on Paper

It didn't work on paper.

They introduced a Picard clone who held none of the memories or experiences of Picard and forced an idea that somehow, because they had the same DNA, they would think and act the same. We already have the equivalent of this in our society: They are called maternal twins. And Shinzon was Picard's twin seperated at birth. But it wasn't even trying to explore Nature vs. Nurture either. Shinzon was proclaiming to Picard "I am you!" Picard somehow comes up with the idea of ramming the ship because "Shinzon wouldn't do it himself." What?! Nemesis was an insult to any thinking person trying to follow the plot. It was a lame idea and a lame execution of that idea.

Because sheep will be sheep. Nemesis was a Berman produced Trek film released against the biggest movie of the year. It flopped... and Trek fans bitched about it's quality far more than they did after Insurrection came out.

7 years later, we have a hit. Many fans feel feel good about the fact that their love of Star Trek which has always been considered nerdy is now cool among the masses.

If I was going for a FPV I'd get the F6 - the FPV version of the Falcon Turbo 6. 311 kW (417bhp).

Still doesn't manage much better than 5.1 for the 0-100kmh time though in the performance figures I've seen, but that might be because they are using manual F6's.

And max speed here on most freeways is only 100kmh. My car is factory limited to 230kmh but it could go way past that if the limiter was taken off.

And we have yet another one who thinks he's "smart" because he doesn't like the film. Outstanding.

With the number of peer reviewed studies with monozygotic and dizygotic twins in Psychology anhd Medical literature, you'd have thought that a better attempt at nature vs nurture could been made, if that was what they were going for.

Oh come now. Star Trek fans have always wanted mainstream acceptance. Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Bond... they've always been "cool", and now Star Trek fans can boast the same.

Some of the deleted scenes rectify that a bit, but you are right to say it was a poor attempt at an intelligent idea. Even with the scenes put back it, the film still wouldnt have worked, it just would have failed with a bit more dignity. Instead all we have to discuss is bald jokes.

The New Film on the other hand, doesnt even attempt to tackle an issue so no problems there. I still remain unconvinced thats a good thing however.

THAT sounds really douchy. Of course it couldn't be because it's actually a good movie. We're all "sheep".

Christ.

People are allowed to like this movie in the same way that I am entitled to prefer Nemesis. It's just pretty obvious that Trek fans are more likely to jump on the train for something that is a mainstream hit. Star Trek is "kewl".

Possum, I was a Trek fan before it was "cool" (1969).:guffaw:

You do realize liking stuff just because it is "kewl" usually stops after adolescence? Do you really think all the people posting here that are in the 30-50 age bracket love a movie because it is pronounced "kewl"?
