I prefered Nemesis

I'm not specifically citing Nemesis but I'm kind of agreeing with the OP to say that up till now I've hung on every word of Trek. I watched this new film all the way through just because it was Trek. I might like the next one, when they settle in, but this one was unengrossing. Some good moments but it felt like they were just shoehorning Trek names and references into a run of the mill sci fi film (complete with heavily American accented villain). Should have been made for TV.

I still contend that if you had combined the bombing of TFF and the blow it struck to Trekdom and it's perception with TNG never getting it's act together, which it did with season three and TBOBW, it would have been in danger.

But TNG DID strongly serve to reestablish Trek.

But yeah, the Berman era did drag out too long and only in season four of Enterprise, when it was way too late, did they do a clean flush of the creative talent.

It is also useful to note that the Berman era series widely regarded as the best, DS9, did have the minimal Berman involvement.

He was not the creative guy. But for a long time, he was a solid producer who led a mostly successful era of Trek.

He just didn't know when it was time to pass it on and had it forced on him.

BTW, I'm with you, AJK, on the label Star Trek saving TNG in it's first two years. It clearly showed promise, but boy, did it have some work to do.

But work, it did.

I actually really liked Nemesis a lot but Star Trek just blows in completely away. It feels more like Star Trek than Nemesis did. Nemesis was a pale shade of Trek while the new movie is a brighter shade. ST was just more fun than STN, more full of the Trek spirit.

Yes nemesis did have a greyer look, and ST is shinnier full of lights and lens flares.

The difference is young rebelling teens dont have the maturity to realize it.

There were quite a few similarities between Nemesis and Star Trek I will admit. I mean what are the odds that two movies in a row the villain would be a Miner from the Romulan Empire?? Has JJ or the writers ever said if they watched Nemesis or enjoyed it?

I dont understand how can you doubt Shinzon was a miner? I mean They showed it in the movie and even had flashbacks to his life growing up as a miner.

He was pasty from spending his life in the mines away from sunlight. As for being weak it probably had something to do with that disease he had.
