I officially began my journey through all Star Trek on October 9th...

Oh and if you want a laugh about The Way of the Warrior, and a bit of reflection on the magic of practical effects. By the time they filmed this episode the old ST III Bird of Prey was in pretty bad shape and the wings no longer worked. So they improvised. Many of the BoP's you see on screen, especially in large numbers... are Hallmark Christmas ornaments. Let's see CGI top that!

LOL, I didn't know that. I have one of those Bird Of Prey ornaments.

I've always felt The Visitor was right up there with The City on the Edge of Forever, The Inner Light and Timeless as the best of the best for Trek.

That's a very good list. One from each major series that just grabs you in a way that nothing else does. I notice sadly that Enterprise has no such story or episode.

Similitude.

Oh dear Gods no. That was pop culture ethics debate masquerading as edgy SciFi. It sits in that same place as TNG's Ethics or Voyagers Tuvix. All three were what I think of as typical Star Trek episodes. Ethics questions wrapped up in SF claptrap and delivered with all the subtlety of a baseball bat to the skull. They aren't bad episodes. As I said they are by and large typical Trek episodes, with enough to think and talk about. Reasonably inteligent SciFi or faking it well enough to give the appearance of such. But they are nowhere near the tightly written medium defining tales that were the 4 mentioned above. The ethics stories ask some interesting questions and get you thinking a little bit. The other 4 make your brain sizzle and pop and leave you someplace else. Drained and satisfied at the same time.

Avery Brooks is literally insane.

Our Man Bashir, that was a fun episode. For once, they gave us a good holosuite story, the first of DS9 if my memory serves me right?

Dr. Honey Bear :luvlove:

Now you know where my screenname comes from, my original avatar was Avery pointing his two guns. I'm a big James Bond fan and that episode is up there with Trials And Tribble-ations as my favorite of the series.

Pointless personal story about Our Man Bashir:
I was in my basement workshop building a model, watching that episode in first run, an electric heater on the floor next to my chair. Ten minutes before the end, the heater blew a circuit breaker, plunging the basement into darkness. I got up to run for the breaker panel in the pitch dark, tripped over the heater and gashed my leg open. I got the lights back on and watched the rest of the episode clutching my leg. I didn't want to miss it, I was enjoying it so much!

After it was over, I told my wife what happened, and I finally looked at my wound. It was over an inch long, and to the bone. We left for the emergency room at 10PM, didn't get a doctor till 2AM and got home at 4AM. Three stitches. still have the scar. But I didn't miss the end of the episode!

Respect, Sir. I think i can call you a fan :-)

This season is so consistently great right now.

Just watched Little Green Men, was laughing my ass off the whole way through. I love Ferengis so much.

I just keep waiting for that one mediocre/bad episode to pop up as there always is every two or three episodes, but it just hasn't happened yet. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing, but I'm really enjoying season 4.

The only thing that drags Little Green Men down just a bit, is within a week of it airing, Futurama aired "Roswell That Ends Well". Which is almost the same basic story and setup. But executed absolutely perfectly. DS9's is a great fun story. One of the better SciFi Roswell stories ever made. Futurama's however is the best. (Put it on your must see list.)

As far as episode quality? You are in the middle of the best run of the season. From Starship Down straight through to Paradise Lost without a downturn or mediocre episode in the run. There are a few middle ground ones after that, but nothing really bad. I think Accession is the weakest of them, but it's not really bad. Even some of what will look like standard undistinguished episodes from this season, such as Return to Grace and Bar Association, subtly start some things that become very important later.

The only characters I really like so far are Tom Paris (charming and charismatic) and The Doctor (funny and unique).

They're my favorite parts of Voyager. I've been a big Robert Picardo fan since I was a kid, I grew up on Joe Dante movies and he was in quite a few. He was awesome/hilarious in Innerspace. I've always liked the idea that Paris MIGHT be Locarno from TNG: The First Duty. I know technically he isn't and McNeill himself says they're different characters, I think they just didn't want to get sued.

There's a six year gap between the two though and they're both trying to do different things. I agree Roswell that End Well is better.

Roswell That Ends Well first aired December 2001. Little Green Men premiered November 1996.

One of my least fave DS9 eps is in season 4. I'm betting you'll know it when you get to it.

Or they didn't want to pay money to the writer(s) of 'The First Duty' for using a character they had created.
