I like Ezri, but...

Then why not say it this way to begin with? The way you wrote it makes it sound like being gay makes someone a predator.

A) I can barely type on my phone.

B) Seems like a self evident

C) I thought I did

Garak cant be gay because if he were itd put him one step away from being a social predator. His habits of gas lighting lying manipulation etc would be very questionable if he were a straight guy doing it to a woman.

I love Jadzia, but her death and Ezri should have happened a season or two earlier, so Ezri's development wouldn't have to be cracked into the final season.

I'm honestly stunned that Jadzia's death wasn't planned, given that 90% of her character was developing the Trill species for the audience. Having a host die halfway through the series seems like a no-brainer.

I still maintain that it shouldn't have happened at all. Or if they were going to be total pricks and kill off Dax, don't just bring her back in another body.

I dunno, I thought it was nice that they took advantage of the fact that she was one of the few characters who had a pre-established reason why she would be able to return in some form after having been 'killed'.

But she wasn't even a different character. Her neurosis about being unexpectedly Joined was apparently resolved in a couple episodes, and then she was just doing the same stuff Jadzia Dax did.

Ezri was only the same as Jadzia if you reduce her to her most generic descriptors. Gender and hair color. ...and that we sometimes saw her on the bridge of the Defiant. As individuals, they're extremely different and any intentional similarities are there for a very good reason.

Instead of in a counselor's office. Troi had a reason for being on the bridge: she could read emotions, sense lies. Ezri... she just did the stuff Jadzia did.

Ezri is not interested in martial arts at all. You don't see her fighting Worf with batleths or limping into Bashir's office to be treated every few days.

Because aside from one ill-advised trust, she wasn't "into" Worf.

Agreed, the fact she was killed off and people are still upset about it 25 years later, is a tribute to how well done it was.

We both got a return of the character and paradoxically got reminded in every episode how upset we were by the fact she was gone.

reinstating the Khitomer accords was the only non-inept thing he did, remember, it was his buffoonery that started that short war. He allowed himself to be influenced by a fake Martok…

Lol, as much as I liked Gowron, he was a blustering buffoon from start to finish. Bahaha
I really wonder if the writers tasked with the "Klingon-drama-of-the-week" episode to create Reunion knew what cross-series storylines they were setting up with Gowron; was he originally going to be a forgettable side character? Maybe the writers saw something between Dorn and O'Reilly that led to Redemption, but to have Gowron as the leader though all this political intrigue, war, empire-building and espionage...quite the arc for a guest star on a single episode in the 90s.

IMO, "Old being hooking up with human." is one of the tamer romantic couplings in fiction of this nature.
Paging Dr. Crusher and the weird holo-ghost granny's lover in the lamp situation. (Sorry, I couldn't not say it)

Like others have said, Ezri could have been a great character had DS9 been granted an eighth or even ninth season. But recognizing the timeframe, the writers and producers seemed to turbocharge Ezri's backstory and integration with the main cast. IMO, that led to a lot of the hard feelings some have today about the character as 'hogging' the last season. Ezri didn't get a choice about suddenly joining with a new symbiont, just like Nicole de Boer suddenly got six+ years of Dax's development dropped on her and told 'make it work' in a single season. To be honest, I think both Ezra and de Boer did remarkably well with what they were handed, both in universe and in real life.

And it's not that uncommon for the ship's Counsellor to take the helm like Ezri did on the Defiant. I mean, Deanna got to drive in Generations and that turned out just gre...oh, oops, never mind, bad example. :guffaw:

Ezri... she just did the stuff Jadzia did.
Ezri wasn't science officer. She wasn't the pilot of the Defiant. She didn't use a bat'leth, or play tongo, or display excessive snark, or hold particular devotion to Klingon stuff...or wrestle Galeo-Manada style. ...As far as we know, at least.

Instead of in a counselor's office. Troi had a reason for being on the bridge: she could read emotions, sense lies.
She's a Starfleet officer who performs multiple duties, just as Troi did. Besides, "She shouldn't be on the bridge" does not equal "She was just the same as Jadzia".

I knew Andrew Robinson was playing Garak that way (until the powers that be told him to stop), but didn't know Siddig was going that route as well.

And let's be clear, having a crush on a person isn't "pathetic". It's normal human (and undoubtedly Cardassian as well) behavior.

Agreed! I have crushes from years ago that I've never actually acted on. Sometimes it's better that way than facing heartbreak

I just had someone in a closed relationship basically block me online after I told him that it was possible that a part of me had feelings for him that I shouldn't have.

I didn't say I -did- have those feelings for him. I certainly didn't suggest that I -wanted- to have those feelings for him.

Frankly, if someone's going to distance themselves from me because I'm self-aware enough to acknowledge my own potential unconscious motivations for doing things, no matter how unlikely I'd like to believe they are, then I think I can do better.

Some people are uncomfortable with the notion of dealing with people who have feelings for them, especially when they're in a committed relationship.

Sure, but it's one thing to have them and another thing to acknowledge that you might have them without even realizing it.

I might secretly desire to be heterosexual. I have no conscious awareness of such a desire, but I can't categorically rule it out.

I've had people "suggest" that they had feelings for me or that I have feelings for them. I considered it an attempt to broach the question of whether I would pursue a relationship in spite of my marriage. I stopped talking to those people. I think that people should respect the relationships that people are in, not try to circumvent them.

Many same-sex oriented people do, even in this relatively tolerant age. Not wanting to disappoint family, religious beliefs, cultural norms, desire for children... even just wanting to "be like my friends". The snake oil that we call conversion therapy may be on its way out, but while it was a thing, many if not most participants signed up by choice.

You're missing my point, which is that acknowledging that something is possible isn't the same thing as that thing being probable, much less desirable.
