I Have Begun the Journey

Season two is a bit of an improvement on average, although I think there are individual season one episodes that are better than anything in season two. I think the season two finale is atrocious, though. I'll be curious what you think of that (I usually just throw the whole thing out and pretend it never happened, along with the relevant season one episode that I won't name because of spoilers).

Disc 3 and 4 includes some important episodes which will be built upon later in the series... Including the one Hirogen Alpha is talking about.

Yes, but the season 3 premiere is pretty cool. I think they knew they had to make up for part one.

Need - **
Thor's Chariot - ****
Message in a Bottle - ***
Family - **
Secrets - ****

Am now going to catch up on the few episodes of S1 I missed on Hulu... The Nox, Fire and Water, Hathor, Singularity, Cor-Ai, Enigma, Solitudes, and Tin Man.

Anyway... I'm guessing Season Two's finale is another !@#$ing clip show.

Bane - * (the water gun scene is the only redemption)
The Tok'ra Part One - ****
The Tok'ra Part Two - ****

Okay... now I'm going back and watching S1 on Hulu while I'm at school. I'm having to watch them out of order for reasons beyond my control (broken laptop, STILL no Disc 3 & 4 as I expected, etc.)

There are some really great episodes from this show. Wish I had watched 10 years ago.

To be honest, I've never really given that episode its due. Due to how awful the season one episode I won't name and "Out of Mind" happen to be, I'd rather just lose the season three opener and pretend the whole thing didn't happen. But I might have to give it another look sometime.

The Nox - ** It's ok... don't understand the hype.
Spirits - *
Touchstone - ***
A Matter of Time - ****

The Nox is good because it keeps Apophis in play, sets a seed for several future episodes, and has a guest appearance by Armin Shimerman. On its own, I'd only rate it average, too.

The Fifth Race - ** (I fell asleep watching this twice)
Serpent's Song - **** (my personal favorite so far)
Holiday - *** (thought this one was going to be dumb, ended up really liking it a lot. Some great acting in this one. Christopher Judge had O'Neill down to a tee)

I'm sorry... I realize this episode probably sets up some important things later in the series, and I liked the ending... but there was practically no drama.

You want pizazz??

Out of Mind - **

As far as the framing story goes, this one actually isn't that bad. I just fast-forwarded through the clips considering I've seen all these episodes over the past two weeks. It's certainly a lot better than the 1st season clip show, Politics, with an understandable framing device, but a TERRIBLE script. The only thing that really bothered me is the fact that O'Neill kept walking past the SGC mock-up into the room with the Pyramid thing, would avoid some guards, and then walk back out through what I think was the same door.

I'm probably going to take a break from Stargate for a while. 40 episodes or so has burnt me out a little bit, and baseball is back and all that good stuff. There are $15 seasons at Wal-Mart and I'm going to buy S3 and S4 in the next couple of weeks and get back to watching.

It's hard for me to comment on these episodes without blundering into spoilers, so I'll try to be careful.... But this was the olden days when Stargate still seemed to me to have a lot of promise with the set-up of some fascinating ideas.

I loved the Indiana Jones feel to Torment of Tantalus. And the Serpent's Grasp/Lair plot arc was good, that's the kind of menace that I really wanted from the Goa'uld. You had to take them seriously - they weren't just a bunch of cliche-spouting drag queens.

I also think The Fifth Race is overrated, but I've never been a big fan of how Stargate handles the whole issue of the history and fate of "important alien races." Which is all I will say about that, since there is much more spoilery stuff to come.

I was very intrigued by The Tok'ra two-parter. I thought the notion of "Goa'uld who are trying to be ethical" had real potential for solid drama, but once again, I can't kvetch about how they did or didn't fulfill that potential without revealing future spoilers...

3x01 - Into the Fire - C

Wow... this doesn't even feel like Stargate for some reason. Nearly everyone is acting out of character in my opinion, especially Teal'c. You can tell Christopher Judge isn't fully into the Teal'c character at this point. His voice is too much like his own. This is also the first episode I've had to watch in "less than stellar quality." Sigh

I'm now watching the S4 episode "Window of Opportunity" because I've so many good things about it and I just couldn't wait to see what the fuss was!

Hi all, I've recently started moving into the Stargate universe. Saw the movie many years ago but never did pick up the series. Probably just as well I didn't, I was shocked to find that it came up to 10 seasons. Okay, I was probably sleeping back then but I was kinda distracted by other SF stuff. :p I was aware of SG-1 but it was hovering at the bottom of the radar.

Anyways, wading through the episodes currently. I like it. Good cast, good stories, not cheesy, not campy, no misuse of chars just to tiltilate, no overdepressive atmostphere and good injection of humour now and then. The ep Window of Opportunity is definitely one of my favs, although the theme of time loop is jaded, still, it was humorous.

I've to say though I felt like kicking the char O'Niell sometimes. He made the most irrelevent comments when he shouldn't and also made a couple of bad calls. But he's definitely a fun char. :p Samantha "Black Widow" Carter ... hehe, that was exactly what I was thinking of as the eps went by. What was with the guys falling over like ninepins for her and straight into the grave? :p I laughed when I read the cast gave the char that nickname. Another excellent intelligent female char in the SF universe. Jackson and Teal'C. What would they be without these 2 fellas? :p

I've skipped several eps that seemed safe to jump over. Emancipation is one, I read the brief synopsis and didn't like what it entailed. As the seasons progressed on and one System Lord went down after another, I started to wonder just how many names the writers were gonna pull out of the hat because I was starting to go crosseye from trying to slot which adversary was coming up on the scope into its correct slot. Until I decided it didn't matter what they were called, they're all snake-thingies that had to be taken down.

I'm currently on season 9 disc 4 : Ripple Effect. Most likely to get Stargate Atlantis after SG-1 is completed.
