I Have Begun the Journey

"Nightwalkers." Is that the one that thought it was the X-Files?

Also, I personally love Seasons 9 and 10 BECAUSE it seems like a new show. Claudia Black is an excellent and hilarious addition to the cast.

But you're not there yet....

Season 7 coming up, eh? That's a solid season with a pretty entertaining arc. And when it's all over...you can start Atlantis!

By arc, do you mean a few things that happen during the beginning and end of the season? I like season seven a lot more than most people, but it's basically an arc with an assortment of standalones in the middle.

Maybe? I don't know; it's been a long time since I've watched it. But that's how a lot of arcs work in TV. Not every episode has to be important.

True, but even the mid-season cliffhanger doesn't connect with the Atlantis arc.
They literally go searching for Atlantis in the two part opener, kind of cover what happened to Daniel during the fourth episode (Orpheus)...and then they don't go in search of Atlantis until the season finale. Don't get me wrong, I like nearly every standalone that happens in between that season to varying degrees, but it feels like the writers are spinning their wheels for a little bit.

I've actually seen the first season of Atlantis... there's a thread I started about that too.

Anyway... Anubis is out there, but they spend the whole season basically doing nothing... and it's not even Jonas Quinn's fault. He's a decent enough character just trying to fit in.

A couple of decent episodes in the sixth season, but a huge drop in quality from the previous five.

I rather like season six, but I would rather watch Jonas than Daneil, and generally like shows such as "Abyss" and "The Other Guys" more than you. I don't think seasons seven or eight will be much of an improvement for you, although eight eventually gets pretty heavy into the arc material. I'm mostly curious to see how you feel about seasons nine and ten, as well as the rest of Atlantis. Those tend to split the fanbase, and I don't really care for them.

True, but even those you rated with a 'B.'

I tend to give most things I rate a B unless I'm really impressed with it (mostly stuff that manages to warrant my undivided attention).

I kind of dropped the ball on this thread while trying to keep up with all the new series I've been watching, but I'm finally getting around to watching Seasons 7-10. I'm going to take advantage of Hulu for the rest of the year.

Okay, it's been slow go, but I've managed to watch the first dozen episodes of S7. O'Neill has been reduced to a few scenes per episode sharing witty one liners, and most of the episodes have been mostly humorous. I have to admit, even though it is different, I really like this season. Season six was very subpar, and I don't think it had anything to do with Jonas Quinn. The scripts just weren't very good.

i'll mimic what another poster here has said that seasons 9 & 10 feel like another show with all the cast changes, and near the end of season 10 I guess the writers knew the show was coming to a close, so you got some VERY "different" episodes like "Talion"

"Talion" was dreadful.

This guy appears out of nowhere with this supposedly huge Jaffa army with this huge fleet of ships and the SGC just believes him ? If he commands a force that large, shouldn't he be more worried about the Ori attacking him than Earth ?

the theoretical "surprise huge fleet" is what you took away from that episode? the guy was an influential Jaffa leader who was working on the side of the Ori, and my post referred more to the dark actions of Teal'c, and the overall message of the episode being way different than what you normally see with the rest of the series

I took it as being a flawed episode based on a flawed premise with a villain played by an absolutely terrible actor.

If you don't care for "Icon" you'll probably hate the sequel in season nine, "Ethon." I'd stick with season eight, though. The final five or six episodes are terrific, and end the show on a high note. Of course, there ended up being two more seasons, but that wasn't known at the time.

I actually haven't watched an episode since then. I was completely disgusted by all this build up to Atlantis and the fall of Anubis and then we get an absolutely terrible (almost unwatchable) episode where SG-1 tries to interfere with a planet over... nothing.

I don't plan on ditching the series though. I've come way too far and it still impresses me every few episodes. I actually really enjoyed season 7 for the most part.

There's a few stinkers coming up (Teal'c trapped in the never released Stargate game; Teal'c moves in next to an abusive neighbor), but the season gets back on track around the time of "Gemini" (episode 11). I'd stick with it.

I have seen the movie, and the occasional episodes here and there, even watching Stargate: Atlantis for the first full season. I have recently borrowed the first season of SG-1 from a friend and I plan on watching until my eyeballs bleed tonight. Just thought I'd give you a heads up. I've never been a fan, but I think it's time I give it a fair chance.

You remind me exactly of myself back in 2008 :) I've started a thread not to dissimilar to this one over at Gateworld (http://forum.gateworld.net/threads/55504-My-Journey-through-Stargate-SG1-episode-by-episode.) where week by week, I review one episode. I'm approaching the end of Season 4, 13 pages of thread and counting.

I'm enjoying your reviews so far.
