Because in the current streaming environment, which also includes platforms such as YouTube and TikTok, this particular target audience is now massively ‘diluted’ and often finds entertainment in the new free to watch streaming mediums rather than paid subscription services. There is little to separate streaming platforms other than pay walls and the branded content that they provide. Over saturation in the streaming market means that it is hard to merchandise a product or show unless you have lots of subscribers or followers. Star Trek had the opportunity to be an ongoing ‘big cinema brand’, the franchise also still has the potential to be one. The JJ-Verse movies have stalled though for some reason. A Prodigy movie would be a good launch pad in the interim for a new and younger audience. Such a movie could be advertised in a way that would not rely on anyone having to have heard of the television toon which the movie is based on. All the CGI assets already exist, though they may need to be upscaled for cinema screens.Trek is not a cinema brand right now. Beyond was a long time ago.
