How would you guys do a Star Trek animated movie

I'm not sure that Spider-Verse's overall atmosphere is very suited for Trek. That being said, if you are talking more about the art style, that sort of comic book look would actually fit in very well with the bright colors of TOS. So, as much as the TOS era has been visited and revisited and revisited, I think if I were to be tasked with coming up with a ST film in that vein that's the setting I'd pick. Maybe some sort of light action story, ideally not too serious (we've had enough "the fate of the Federation rests on your hands" stories as of late), perhaps even in the Kelvin-verse so we don't have to worry about stepping on any canon toes. Perhaps some sort of scheming or skirmish with the Klingons would do? They're pretty fun and would also fit well with that vibe.

A TOS-era crossover with the prime timeline and the Kelvinverse, with the comics and graphic novels versions of the characters (ex. New Voyages) also making a cameo appearance. With the soundtrack being scored by Ron Jones or someone similar.

I don’t know if it needs Klingons, as it might be more suited to involve Harry Mudd and Orions.Or Talosians. But it should be a fun adventure.

I'd do a 2D direct-to-streaming animated movie with character designs similar in style to the recent crop of DC animated movies. It'd follow a never before crew on the Enterprise-F, with a brief cameo from either Worf or LaForge. It would be the first of a series of streaming animated movies exploring untold eras of Trek. Future installments might cover the Enterprise-B in the time between TOS and TNG, a post TV-series DS9 story, the Voyager-D, a tale of a pre-ENT starship, and maybe even movies diving into other alternate realities of Trek including a gender-flipped version of TOS perhaps...such movies could go anywhere, IMO.

If they were to do an Animated Trek movie I’d like to see it in either a more “traditional” style ala Lower Decks or go full “Pixar” with it.

content wise, find a way to give us the biggest crossover ever with all the Captains (one more time with Shatner) and as much of the crews as possible. Including the Kelvin-verse.

I'd just let Sony and the Spider-Verse team do it. Paramount won't do it as well.

I'd only hope the animators would be treated far better than the Spiderverse group experienced.

How is promotion different for a kids show in the streaming era?
Because in the current streaming environment, which also includes platforms such as YouTube and TikTok, this particular target audience is now massively ‘diluted’ and often finds entertainment in the new free to watch streaming mediums rather than paid subscription services. There is little to separate streaming platforms other than pay walls and the branded content that they provide. Over saturation in the streaming market means that it is hard to merchandise a product or show unless you have lots of subscribers or followers. This all means that there is a renewed importance in cinema, because the experience of going to the cinema with friends and family cannot be replicated by the over saturated online world of streaming video entertainment; sometimes it is good to get out of the house and watch something on a big screen with some popcorn.

Trek is not a cinema brand right now. Beyond was a long time ago.

Star Trek had the opportunity to be an ongoing ‘big cinema brand’, the franchise also still has the potential to be one. The JJ-Verse movies have stalled though for some reason. A Prodigy movie would be a good launch pad in the interim for a new and younger audience. Such a movie could be advertised in a way that would not rely on anyone having to have heard of the television toon which the movie is based on. All the CGI assets already exist, though they may need to be upscaled for cinema screens.

TBH, Star Trek needs a big reset button pressing again IMHO. Such a reset could be achieved by a temporal intervention to prevent the destruction of the Romulan sun/Hobus star in the late 24th century. Such a reset movie would put the Star Trek Universe 'back to normal' and could bookend the JJ-verse with one final big screen adventure. Because time travel is involved in this movie, the film could be made in to a mega crossover event with characters from the 24th century. They could even bring William Shatner back as an old man version of Christopher Pine. :techman:
