How big are the changes that are coming?

I was wondering what the future of Star Trek would be with Paramount, as I see that strange new worlds is being wrapped up early – to my regret – and what I was told is that Paramount is moving away from the focus on TV series and the close ties to the considerable backstory of Star Trek, and is moving Star Trek instead towards movies, and to a closer kinship with the Marvel brand. Projects that had been in the works have been abandoned. The only TV series still being fostered is Starfleet Academy. How accurate do you suppose this picture is? I don't like the idea of losing the TV series, however much one might like or dislike any given title, and I really don't like bringing Star Trek more in line with Marvel.

There have been no ‘projects in the works’ other than SFA and the multitude of announcements for films that Paramount had no actual intention of ever making. All other rumors for such things like Legacy, Year One, United, Tawny Newsome’s pet project, the Janeway show etc. etc. were either just pitches CBS/Paramount chose not to greenlight, wishful thinking from directors struggling to keep a job, or downright falsehoods from information taken out of context.

The bottom line is that there has been a regime change, and one of two current projects from the old regime has been canceled, and the other project’s current future is unknown, while the only thing ‘officially’ on the horizon is yet another hollow promise of a feature film.

Oh, and Star Trek Scouts.

Don't we have multiple discussions on the same basic subject already?

The answer to the OP's question is, we don't know. There are a lot of people saying things. The vast majority of them don't know, either.

Thanks, Dukhat. Disappointing. I suppose we just wait a few years and see if someone else buys the franchise and decides to revive it.
