So...a high density dataline that bypasses the communication protection protocols Hoshi developed in the Romulan War to deliberately stop this kind of hijacking that links to all critical areas of every Starfleet vessel.

Kinda circles around to the differences between now and 1966. The audiences understands so much more about computers and security surrounding them now.

That doesn't even take into account why you would need holographic comms connected to your sensitive systems? Now we have to think of all the poor Starfleet officers who will no longer have access to holographic mirrors when they get ready. Won't someone think of grooming?!

Maybe Dr. Daystrom was the one who designed the holographic interface while trying to create his multitronic computer system and put some of his crazy-town engrams into the original equipment?
:p

So that high ranking personnel can communicate in a very direct way on any part of the ship immediately? I really don't know. Pike's line implies it's buried right in a lot of the ship. That doesn't seem like a good idea. The Prometheus having shipwide holography at all was considered something remarkable in 2375.

Communicator? I can't fathom a reason you would need to have holographic projectors all over the ship.

Maybe the bandwidth of holography is so large that not only can it not be compressed, it can't be fully monitored or hacked by anything other than powerful AI?

Saru was surprised by petabytes of transmission being taken up by ordinary comms traffic, but that level of info being possible means something uses that, holo-comms could be it.

Based on many of your previous conclusions and displays of discordant views, I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.

I'm not sure I'm all that alone in those views. The big criticism the show has faced so far in both seasons is that the writing is lackluster.

Go steal some people from HBO.

I have absolutely no problem with that line of thought.

These days I think STARZ would be a better choice than HBO.

It means in the Disco future, everyone needs to put on pants before making a call!
Folks would stop calling me a second time, for sure.

I can imagine Harry Mudd doing this on purpose as well.
(though if it's Stella calling he might stand behind a piece of furniture)
:guffaw:

Unless something specific to Vulcan body chemistry, some sweat chemical etc causes a higher display of UV. It's a stretch, yeah. they meant IR, but i like the idea better. it would explain why a non-perfect Control did not know to look for that.

That's what I thought when I watched that the second time. Both times detecting the fake holograms were Vulcans.

What kind of future is it if we can't be naked all the time? that's what Gene wanted after all.
Gene envisioned a world where you'd have no need for pockets to hold spare change or posessions. Maybe the 1st season tng uniforms are supposed to be body paint.
