Avengers : Endgame... Only $2B ? Not MORE ? I think you underestimate the hype ;-)
Well, over $2B for sure, but it probably won't get to Avatar's $2.7B nor $3B. There is just too much competition coming few weeks after Endgame for it to have long enough legs to get to $3B. Plus at over 3 hours long, there are less timeslots per day it can be shown.

There was a reason why Kurtzman told reporters that the story of Burnham and Spock could only be told this season.

That means it isn't possible next season... Why not? Because the U.S.S. Discovery jumps to another time? Because Burnham dies? Because history gets re-written and season 1 and 2 never happened?

It's weird.

However, Ethan Peck won't confirm or deny his involvement in season 3. So that adds to the mystery...

He's talking about a spin-off with Mount and Romijn and from the smile on his face we can almost be sure there will at least be a mini-series/ShortTrek/spin-off on the Enterprise.

At the beginning of the interview, he's also asked about season 3 of Disco. So one does not preclude the other, and vica versa. ;)

Because the U.S.S. Discovery jumps to another time?

Possible.

Because Burnham dies?

No. They aren't continuing Stamets, Culber and fucking MU Georgiou without Michael Burnham on the show. I mean, the focus on her may annoy me at times, but she is the series lead, and the show will officially jump the shark if she dies.

Because history gets re-written and season 1 and 2 never happened?

My bet is on this, given the weird comments Kurtzman has been making on "aligning with canon." A time jump in and of itself wouldn't solve these issues.

I noticed in the Syfy interview Peck said the following:

“Captain Pike was so unexplored in a lot of ways, you know, he was only in 'The Cage' and 'The Menagerie,' and Anson’s really brought it to life, like he’s never been before. And I think he’s done such an amazing job, I just admire the heck out of him as an actor and as a captain,” said Peck. “There’s some things upcoming that I think will prove to be very exciting for fans of Captain Pike.”

The bolded sentence could just mean he has a great closing arc in the end run of the season, but it could also mean something else entirely.

There’s no reason that Pike being promoted to Fleet Captain couldn’t happen now. He can hold that rank and still command Enterprise. Maybe that’s something that happens for him.

Well, they do have the Starfleet Academy series in development. Perhaps Pike (Mount) is going to be heading to the academy as head of training at the end of Season 2? Would put him in a position to have his ultimate fate (per TOS) of being severely injured due to radiation exposure saving the lives of cadets on a training mission. Having Mount as a series regular (playing Pike) on the Starfleet Academy series would be a win-win for a lot of folks who really enjoy Mount's acting and characterization of Pike. Perhaps Anson Mount has a new 'job' in his very near future..... :D

Hopefully, They find a way to get him out of that silver box with a blinking light and wheels.

Personally, I'm hoping that it ends up being Leland in the chair and not really Pike.
(it could be because it is Leland that the chair is so crude, it doesn't give him a chance to let anybody know and would essentially trap the part of Control in him as well)

I know that would blow the ending of "The Cage" and all of "The Menagerie" out of canon, but in this particular case, I don't give a chit and if it done right, nobody but us would know.

Even if Spock knows, he'd still play along with the charade just to keep it secret and could also take pity on Leland and eventually give him a better life.
:techman:

I get the feeling they are going to jump forward in someway that connects with the Calypso episode, but not before dropping Pike and Spock off on the Enterprise. Some sort of "bye, see ya, LLAP" scene and then BOOM a cliffhanger involving OMG where are we?
