How Many of you find Trek Cheers you up if you're down?

Just been dealing with stuff from the recent incident on a forum that I'm working on getting over that's just gotten me down.

I decided today I'll start a Star Trek TNG Marathon [Just the Favorite Episodes been watching some of the Romulan episodes first]

But I always know that for some reason when I'm really down a good long Marathon of Star Trek actually helps out.

I guess it must be loosing yourself in the Trek Universe for a while helps out.

Anyone else do that?

I don't think it's Trek in particular so much as distractions of a fictitious nature in general that help during shit periods.

But being a nerd, yes, Trek seems to be my medicine of choice fairly regularly.

I just find watching the space battles, the explosions, the situations that go on in trek just seems to be the perfect way to get over something.

Normally I'd watch Babylon 5 for that to loose myself in that story line but since there's more Trek out there to watch than B5 well...that works perfectly.

Any of you recommend any good TNG episodes for this sort of thing?

Just watching some of the episodes in season 3 I think Watched earlier "The Defector" "The Hunted" and now watching "The High Ground."

Any ep where Wesley gets stabbed, blown up repeatedly, slapped, or told to "shut up Wesley" works for me. :techman:

Definitely. I like to watch even the frivolous episodes like Data's Day. Star Trek is my "comfort show" :)

When I'm feeling down, there is one particular ST that gets to me and cheers me up--The Search for Spock.

I know, not TNG...

My favorite TNG eps to watch whenever I need a pick me up are "In Theory" where Data gets a girlfriend and "Data's Day."

And, I also love watching the pilot, just to see Troi in that wonderful cheerleader outfit. God, do I miss seeing her in that costume....

I find the Q episodes make me laugh more.

Got to love watch him showing up and causing Trouble for Picard.

Don't know why but I find those hilarious.

Well I'm hoping I get the Deep Space Nine Season sets I'm bidding on to have more Trek to watch.

I just need me a good Trek Fix now to help me out.

Good thing I at least have TNG and Enterprise + the Movies to enjoy.

TNG is definitely "comfort TV" - the sort of show you can put on, zone out and just relax in the company of the characters and take your mind off things for a while. There are other shows that work well in this regard too - Friends is a great non-SF example of this genre. I think shows with a generally optimistic, positive & aspirational atmosphere add to this soothing effect and that's certainly something both TNG and Friends share.

Most definitely yes!

With the exception of the film "Nemesis" and the series "Enterprise". (just my personal opinion)

I'm always working my way through all the series on DVD. When I get to the end, I start all over again.

I have no wife, kids, or pets, so Trek is definitely a big part of my life, and of my daily routine in general. That may be a bit sad, but it works for me. :techman:

For me too it is an escape from the harsh reality of life. We all need it from time to time...

I find watching Star Trek, Babylon 5, and Stargate [SG-1 and Atlantis] Cures me of a depression so fast you'd think it was a wonder drug.

Absolutely!
I used to come from school and start doing my homework and being all bored and then just...I don't remember anymore.

'Cos then everytime I got home there was TNG being watched so I first watched and ep, then did my homeowork, and was really happy the rest of the day!

I have to have a piece of Trek every day (luckily I pretty much do.)
