Claire tries to determine who is responsible for the attacks on Gretchen and Annie. Sylar maintains his control of Matt, and Peter uses his newly gained ability to help Emma.

If they are going to cancel this show, they should announce it early so the writers can wrap it up properly.

Oh, Claire. You finally start acting smart and you go ahead and do something really stupid.

This episode was "meh" for me. Are Emma and Gretchen off the show now?

Above Average--the first in a long time like a year or more. This episode actually managed to hold my attention fairly well.

It had some interesting exposition about Samuel/Becky/Claire; I enjoyed seeing the Haitian again and it was fun seeing Noah/Claire/Renee working together against Becky; I managed to feel sorry for Gretchen and her leaving made me realize I think I like the friendship more than I did just even an episode ago. I still like Emma and I think Peter and she make a sweet couple.

The Matt/Sylar subplot was okay until the final act of sacrifice by Matt. It didn't evoke a whole lot in me given the fact I haven't cared for Matt in years as a character. I wonder if he is the character that doesn't survive or if somehow Peter shows up to save him.

For once, there does feel a sense of some movement and I hesitantly feel like we are moving towards something finally plus it made me show a glimmer of interest in characters I had long ago forsaken.

Below Average

I think I sound like a broken record, but what exactly happened in this episode? Peter saved a couple of people. Claire got some fresh daddy issues. Sylar/Nathan flew away. Emma left to go back to school. Gretchen left to go home. What was the point of having Emma and Gretchen introduced as new characters if they are being written out so quickly before any of them does anything important to the plot? (I guess the Gretchen plot got the ratings boosted a little, but that's beside the point). I also didn't like how Gretchen just left Claire all of a sudden, especially after Claire professed her love. I can't see Gretchen having a total change of heart like that.

But with all that said, I was ready to give this episode an above average rating. Why? Because they killed off Matt (and Sylar's brains), and I was truly surprised. I thought the death where the actor learned from reading the script was going to be
Adrian Pasdar
, so I was surprised that it was Matt. However, seeing Matt alive and well in the preview for next week's episode means that the Matt/Sylar road trip/committing suicide plot was a big waste of time too.

Judging by the preview, next week's episode looks good, especially the Mohinder story, but I'm not going to get my hopes up.

Is it really that easy for old guys to hang out in a sorority house? Where's the nearest campus?

I forgot about this when I was writing my review, but yes it was strange that none of the girls were wondering why there were 2 strange men walking around.

Why does everyone think Emma's leaving? I saw nothing in this episode to suggest that being the case. Gretchen could go either way--she could get all the way to the airport and have a change of heart or like other characters she exits stage left for good once their role as a plot point is finished.

So I guess Parkman is really really dead...? But then why the shot of him in the ambulance with them working on him. It suggests he'll pull through getting shot five times in the chest. And all of the bullets hit the periphery not in the center of his chest. It was nice to see Samuel actually face off against Noah. Also isn't this the first time we learn that Danko killed Sammie's bro? I was assuming that Samuel got into an argument and killed his brother by accident.

I normally don't watch the promos for the following episode but The Habs Fan mentioned that they showed Peter healing Matt in the hospital.

I found the promo after he mentioned it and it sure looks that way. I guess "Nathan" flies Peter to Midland to heal Matt before he succumbs from his wounds. By the way I guess Sylar did somehow found time to take Nathan's flight ability before Nathan bled out from his slit throat since we saw "Nathan" fly away tonite.

my favorite scene was the Nathan memory influenced sack-o-flesh that used to be Sylar's body walking through the carnival confused & flying away, & then rushing to Milo to give him a hug b/c he's so freaked out, poor thing.

I did enjoy Matt giving mind-Sylar a few jabs, but I knew that wasnt going to last. Meh.

I cant wait for the end of this season so I can finally stop watching this crap show.

Average.

The Matt/Sylar scenes were a lot of fun. Peter's storyline is.... meh. The Claire/Gretchen thing really caught me off-guard. Like others, I thought Gretchen's leaving was odd considering how Claire had just gotten through declaring her importance to her. I did like how she called Samuel on his love for the sound of his own voice. Man, that guy just won't shut up sometimes! lol

The abruptness of Claire/Gretchen reminds me of the abruptness involved in Starbuck/Leoben at the end. In the latter, it was a case of show your stalker your body and it'll freak them out. Nearly getting Gretchen killed was enough for her to run away.

Finally the plot has moved somewhere! Although it feels like its only moved an inch to the finish line, but still has moved regardless, i think we're making headway here people.

I liked how Gretchen left. Pretty realistic to what would really happen. Hated yet another occurance of everyone knows everyone as Bennet was the one that killed(dont know for sure happened off camera)Beckys father.
Is the Haitian the current greatest non speaking role on television or what?

I enjoyed this episode immensely. I really like Samuel's character as they really are making him more and more Magneto-lite. He generally seems to think that the world will only fear and persecute those who are different (which they would in real life) so he is really trying to set up a safe haven for those like him. Granted, he is very manipulative and it does seem that his motives are not all together altruistic but I do enjoy his character.

I am enjoying this season and really hope that it does not get canceled. I for one think that it will stick around, as you only cancel a show when you have potentially something better to put on TV. NBC right now does not have the option.

I loved the Parkman-Sylar scenes, although I was disappointed after seeing the clips for next week (but then, I have strong opinions on which characters should and should not die.) But Samuel is the reason I tune in. Love that guy, Knepper just elevates every scene he's in.

I really liked this episode. For once, Claire didn't automatically turn on her dad at the first hint of a shady past. Gretchen was smart to get away from Claire, even if it did mean giving up on her crush. Peter & Emma's developing friendship is sweet and just enough - peripheral but meaningful.

The best part for me though was Matt and Sylar. I loved how smart Matt was in that battle. He used every weapon at his disposal. And when those weapons didn't work anymore, I was so proud of him for being willing to sacrifice himself in order to get rid of the Sylar in his head for good.

And now I read here that most of these things that I liked about the episode will be taken away next week. Matt's sacrifice will be reversed, which as far as I'm concerned will completely cheapen its emotional impact.

*sigh*

Agreed!

................except for the Peter plotline. That is slow and dull. 9 episodes in and nothing is happening.
-he heals people.
-he works with a deaf nurse who can see music.
And that`s it. That is all we know nine episodes in.

Sylar`s and Claire`s plots were actually quite interesting.

I`m going to go against the grain of the anti-Hiro posters here and declare for all his silliness, Hiro`s plot is far more entertaining than Peter`s.
