Established entertainment companies want to negate risk and 'original' ideas being given money to be developed are becoming more and more the exception.

Don't see what there is to gain (money obviously)I don't see why not. The films were good, but hardly so definitive that the book material never needs to be touched again.
The biggest problem with the series is going to be finding enough parents willing to sign their kids up for ten years of abuse and harassment for someone else's views.

Yeah, but the later books should have been a lot shorter. The Phoenix movie was the shortest of the bunch (if we count Hallows as one big movie) for good reason: that book sucks rotten troll toes.
