Have you ever been surprised to see a Trek actor in something else?

Re: Have you ever been surprised to see a Trek actor in something else

here's a few that surprised me:

Man From Earth had John Billingsly and Tony Todd.

The Dark Knight had Tiny Lester, who played Klang from the Enterprise pilot.

Max Grodenchic was in Apollo 13.

Nikita Ager, who played Rajiin, was in that Pirates of Silicon Valley and Shark Attack 2.

Robert Foxworth, who played the evil Admiral in DS9's Homefront/ Paradise Lost, voiced Ratchet it Michael Bay's Transformers

Eric Pierpoint, who played Captain Sanders in DS9's For the Uniform, turned up as Mr. Cole in Liar Liar.

Re: Have you ever been surprised to see a Trek actor in something else

Why would anyone be surprised to see an actor who had been in Star Trek?
It seems that many Trek actors all but disappear after their time on the show, so the question is valid.

Acting is a tough business, and it's not just Star Trek where this "disappearing" is notable. Most actors don't get more than one multi-season television shows to stay visible. And many actors don't necessarily want to stay in front of the camera all the time. Some go into writing, directing, and producing. Or others go into stage work.

A big budget film, yes. Still remember seeing Tim Russ out of the blue in Die Hard, that was about ten years ago lol.. I guess being honest bar Sir Patrick Stewart, Shatner, Nimoy, Takei, Nichols (well the surviving TOS cast) none of the others are A-list. Maybe the remainder TNG cast are B-list due to that show's good ratings, but the man on the street IMO wouldn't know who Robert Duncan McNeill, Terry Farrell, or Marc Alaimo are.

I think Tony Todd was in Wishmaster, and of course was Candyman. "Worf, I came for you.." lol..

Sometimes it's a matter of going back to something that you'd originally watched before you knew the actor from Trek, and not realizing that you'd seen the actor before. Sometimes it's the reverse. I was just watching "Birthright" for the first time in years, and was surprised to discover that Christine Rose (Angela Petrelli from Heroes) had played a Klingon on TNG!

^ You'll be even more surprised to see Teri Hatcher as a transporter chief, or (this still cracks me up) Mick Fleetwood as a giant fishy thing.

ENT actors on NCIS:
Connor Trinneer: "Jeopardy"
John Billingsley: "In The Dark"
Anthony Montgomery: "Collateral Damage" (cameo)
Matt Winston: "Dead and Unburied"
Michael Reilly Burke: "Honor Code"
Steven Culp: "Chimera"
Melinda Page Hamilton: "Ignition"

Knew about those.

One of the reasons I could never take John De Lancie seriously as Q, was that the first time I saw him, he was playing an extremely goofy, nerdy scientist on Days of Our Lives. That image of him just stuck in my mind for some reason. So when Q showed up, my brain went "Hey! It's Eugene!" and I'd start laughing.

Haha, yes. My mom used to watch that show when I was a kid.

I always enjoy it when I spot someone from Trek in something else, though.

Both John DeLancie and Gates McFadden were in that funny film Taking Care of Business.

McFadden had four seconds of total screen-time in The Hunt for Red October.

^ With one of the fakest accents I've ever heard.

Re: Have you ever been surprised to see a Trek actor in something else

I can't believe no ones mentioned John DeLancie's role in Breaking Bad!

Re: Have you ever been surprised to see a Trek actor in something else

John DeLancie in "the fisher king"

(obviously I saw the movie long after it came out)

Re: Have you ever been surprised to see a Trek actor in something else

I was once surprised to see Fritz Weaver (DS9: "Tribunal") on the sidewalk in front of my apartment, but I guess that's not what we're going for here . . . .

The scary part, though, was that I had just watched "Tribunal" the next before. Really!

I'm pleased to hear he's still alive! I'll always remember him fondly from Twilight Zone and The Reanimator.

Oh, and kudos for traveling "the next before", just don't mess up the timeline. Things are getting weird as it is. ;p

Well, this was many years ago, but, yes, I'm pleased to see that he's still around. I remember him best from "The Obsolete Man" on the original Twilight Zone.

And I'm pretty sure I spotted Ed Begley Jr. (Voyager: "Future's End") on the subway once. And I definitely saw Bebe Neuwirth (TNG: "First Contact") outside a bar or restaurant in the West Village one night.

All of those made me do a double-take! :)
