Or you might just be surprised because you found out that one of them did something noteworthy that you'd never heard about, such as the case with Nimoy in M:I for me.

Wow, I used to have MTV on 24 hours a day when I was a teenager, and I do remember this song, but not the video. I certainly would have remembered it for Nimoy's appearance, if nothing else. Of course, I was more of a Go-Go's fan.

I only discovered recently the gorgeous Marianna Hill (well known to TOS fans as Dr. Noel in Dagger of the Mind) played Fredo's drunk wife at the party in Godfather 2.

I would guess I have watched both Dagger of the Mind and Godfather 2 both fifty times each and never noticed

Why would anyone be surprised to see an actor who had been in Star Trek? Do you unconsciously assume Trek actors only do Trek and cannot appear in any other shows? I find the question to be very odd.

I think it's not that we're surprised to see them at all, it's that we're surprised and pleased to see them in other things.

Spot on, Timewalker. I meant it in the sense of you didn't know they were in a movie/tv show you were watching, and then suddenly you spot a familiar Trek actor and say "Hey, it's that guy/gal!"

After I saw Inside Llewyn Davis I looked at the cast list and saw Ethan Phillips, and I don't remember seeing anyone who looks like Ethan Phillips at all.

no,because actors take jobs they need,trek actors had jobs before star trek and di after their trek job finished.
