Have you ever been surprised to see a Trek actor in something else?

Surprised in the sense of not even knowing they were in it before you watched it, I mean.

I still remember being a pup and watching The Muppets Take Manhattan for the first ever time. And aside from the live-action Muppet Babies interlude (which I thought was *very* cool, having more or less grown up with the Muppet Babies cartoon rather than the real Muppets, only later did I realise this was done *first* of course! ), the other thing I was gobsmacked by was seeing a pre-TNG Cheryl 'Gates' McFadden in the movie. It just blew my world apart seeing Dr Crusher interacting with the Muppets.

Yep. Gates McFadden on the Cosby Show, then when I watched the 25th anniversary of Roots, I was surprised to see a young LeVar Burton and then when they played Roots: The Gift, it had Kate Mulgrew, Avery Brooks, Tim Russ and of course LeVar Burton.

the other thing I was gobsmacked by was seeing a pre-TNG Cheryl 'Gates' McFadden in the movie. It just blew my world apart seeing Dr Crusher interacting with the Muppets.

When I first saw LA Story, a Steve Martin movie, and all of a sudden there was Patrick Stewart as the "nazi" restaurant owner, it was a surprise and a plus.

Having only recently watched any classic Mission: Impossible, I was surprised to discover that Leonard Nimoy was a regular for a season or two right after TOS went off the air.

Why would anyone be surprised to see an actor who had been in Star Trek? Do you unconsciously assume Trek actors only do Trek and cannot appear in any other shows? I find the question to be very odd.

Connor Trineer had a juicy guest spot on NCIS, which wasn't surprising, but in that same episode Tim Russ had a very small, almost inconsequential role that anyone could have done which lasted about 30 seconds. He probably got a mortgage payment out of it.

Or they go bananas and make a public spectacle of themselves, as in the case of Avery Brooks...
