Have the streaming purges led you to buy more blu rays and dvds?

I see they now have separate releases for The Expanse seasons 5 and 6. Buying them together is not much less expensive than buying the full series box set, though.
They do now?? JEEEEZ!!! too late, I bought the series. :klingon:

I've always been physical media crazy.

At one time I had nigh on 800 CDs, then eventually sold a lot of them off. Now I have a few hundred DVDs and blu rays.

I've been a streaming sceptic from the start since it seemed obvious to me that being able to watch a particular series was always going to be at the mercy of the Streaming Gods. If I know I'm going to watch something multiple times then I buy it on physical media. I do the same thing with books. If it's going to be a one-time read then I'm happy to get the book from the library. If I'm going to read the book multiple times then I buy it so I'm not reliant on the library still having a copy when I want one.

For the first time, I've bought a not-so-favourite series (Voyager) on DVD precisely because my rewatch (to make sure that I'd seen every episode) had been interrupted by a lack of access to the "right" streaming service. So my answer to the headline question seems to be "yes, but only marginally"

Edit to correct typo.

I've been dealing in online roleplaying environments since the late '90s, and well before streaming media existed there was an instance where someone was trying to sell a piece of virtual property that they'd built, and all I could think was, 'it might be fun for the clout, but how do I know the people who own the place that hosts this property won't pull the plug at some point? It has no permanency...'

Streaming media's exactly the same. You're paying to borrow.

Here's our living room and front and central hallways. The big shelf unit on the left is chock full of DVD/BDs (It used to be full of videotapes 30 years ago), with the middle 3 shelves overflowing with music CDs. There are small shelf units on the wall over the couch with BDs only (cause my father in law built them for knickknacks and the spacing won't fit DVD cases). Two tall shelf units at the end with DVD/BDs, and those brown cabinets by them have shelves even in the doors. I just put a larger shelf unit by the entry (under Astro Boy). The shelves in the main hall are 50% DVD/BD and 50% paperback novels.

I guess that was a mike drop.

Perhaps:D
On some other forum, someone mentioned how many they had (6000ish) and I remember thinking I was bad before that - but I've only got rather less that that (going off isbn numbers in my file.

Paramount falls.

In three years, there will only be one streaming service, with everything, and it will only cost 5 bucks a month.

Old farts like myself were content 32 years ago when Movies Unlimited had every single film release and you only bought what you wanted with no subscription.:borg:

To answer the original question.... the answer is no. I mean, i still am psychologically trained to have a physical copy "in case something happens", but i have really been more on that in regards to computer files (not trusting cloud services or my hard drive), and i am right now looking at my DVD collection, seeing how i haven't watched ANY of that in years.... so that's where I am at.

But i am surprised there isn't a regular service or system set up where an individual store / small business can create licensed physical media (i.e. DVD's) for those who want it. Seems like it would be a win-win for the media companies... they don't have to invest money in making DVD's (which is less and less a guarantee someone will buy, as opposed to filling shelves at Dollar Tree or Wal Mart bins), but people who REALLy want them COULD get them from a small business owner with the time to make them. (And the media companies STILL get some money that they otherwise lost)
