Spoilers Has "Discovery" impacted how you now view "TOS" episodes?

No.

Doesn't make Discovery a bad show. Just 2018 writers interpretation and extrapolation of 1960's material. No different than what the novels have been doing for 40+ years.

I agree. I wasn't trying to say it's bad either way people feel. Just curious about the impact it's had on people's viewing experience when they watch "TOS" episodes now.

Spock might be doing something because he learned it from Burnham
No.
Even Spock talking about Sybok to his parents when he knows he can never talk about Burnham or the Discovery again
Would love there to be a scene in season three where everyone who knew Burnham, and everyone who knew anyone else on the Discovery, and everyone who knew about the Discovery, are all gathered in a big room and were told by Starfleet not to talk about Discovery or anyone aboard her.

Except the novelists have been better about it, had fewer lens flares, and didn't casually discard Star Trek canon.

No. The shows blatant contradictions of canon and the disrespectful handling of the source material (why they couldn't even respect a small thing such as that the viewscreen isn't a window as previous shows as well as both the TOS and TNG writer's guides states is beyond me) coupled with all the other problems of the show... No, it has no impact on TOS for me.

You guys are posting multiple spoilers for Discovery without tags! The rule is six months after airdate. Which means you can't talk about season 2 at all until July without spoiler warnings.

Rather than edit the posts in question, I coded the thread title.

Jayson...you really try my patience.

Sorry.....

Certainly because the Timeline is Prime, but remember that DSC must be TOSsified in one’s mind before incorporation, which means imagining what the show would’ve looked like had it been made in the early 1960s.

Too bad the fan film guys can't start refilming all the Discovery Episodes on the 60s sets and style.... that would actually be pretty fun.

I suspect the average viewer doesn't 'rate' the character Pike from the Original Series at all. Just a one off oddity. So the emphasis we place on Pike and Discovery would be of little importance. Actually I think most people don't even know 'Discovery' exists.

The gap they filled really well is why Sarek was so upset about Spock rejecting the Vulcan Academy to join Starfleet instead.

I never saw a gap. Fathers and sons are often at odds with each other. Sarek and Spock were at odds with each other, both convinced they were "right" and not willing to budge to try and make the relationship work.

Now all the writers have to do is figure out how Burnham caused Spock and Sarek to disagree and have a falling out over the Cardassian Wars.

Sometimes they can overthink a situation and make it feel forced.

DSC has enhanced my appreciation for some of the TOS characters and their backstories. So yes, DSC has had a nice positive effect on how I perceive TOS. In some cases, it's like watching something I've seen 40 times through fresh eyes.

Oh hells yeah it has.

I find it fascinating, imagining TOS episodes happening exactly the same (plot-wise) but with DSC visuals. Too bad we will likely never see Kirk turn up on DSC, I'd love to see who they'd pick.

Nope. I take each show individually, and in the time it was made... (and DSC, like ENT and Star Wars 1-3, is a prequel. They're harder to deal with after a point because of established events. Overlooking discontinuity of set design based on modern times is easier than character setup, especially if established episodes states a key event or phrase and the prequels then play out differently (esp. Star Wars, but I'll save those details for that forum)...

Yes, and it should.

I am at a loss at all the "no" comments. DISCO has revealed background on Sarek, Amanda, and Spock. What we see of these 3 should have an impact on scenes in TOS. We should be gaining insights on the relationship between Spock and his parents.

Someone already mentioned Spock's decision to join Starfleet instead of the Vulcan Science Academy. For 50 years we only had TOS to inform on Sarek's reaction. Once we found out Sarek made a deal for Burnham to join Starfleet and Spock to join the Science Academy, that should have put Sarek's TOS scenes in a different light. Likewise, the revealing of the closeness between Burnham and Sarek should cause us to reassess everything we thought we knew about Spock and Sarek's distance.

No. I only watch the first two episodes of Discovery anyway.

No, it didn't. The characters shown in Discovery are completely different than the characters shown in Star Trek. Just like the ships are completely different. There is ZERO evidence that these two series take place in the same universe, other than what the show runners have said. But, what is seen on screen always trumps creator intention.
