Has Anyone Ever Regretted Getting a Cat?

Haha I know, I figure even if we fall in love with one we'll have to fill out papers and then come back for it. We're going into the city tonight so it's no time to be getting a kitten!

If you do see one, make sure they have a way to reserve the cat you want, or else someone else may go home with the one you fell in love with, while you're waiting to come back.

Actually, the best way to choose a Cat is to hang back and let the Cat choose you. ;)

^ Me too! Whenever I see a cat or dog without a family to take care of it, I mention to my husband how happy Violet would be if she had a sister or brother... He doesn't fall for it, unfortunately!

Well we saw one we liked ... just as someone else was signing adoption papers for it. My husband is driving me nuts with this though, so I told him to just go out and get a cat himself.

I totally regretted it...had it for 2 weeks and when I came home one day from work ALL the cords in my house were chewed into shreds....cat ended up at the animal shelter, will never have another one.

Our last one chose me. The family wasn't looking for a kitten, but a grown cat--but whenever I'd walk past this one kitten's cage, she'd rub up on the bars, talk, make cute noises, and generally want to be petted. Her siblings weren't doing that. But when I saw what a "people" personality she had, and how talkative she was, I immediately decided I wanted her. Like I said, our family tends to get talkative, friendly cats and train them to be doglike--and she was a perfect candidate. ;)

So, I've been watching Cats 101 on the Discovery channel and they suggested using the foot of an old pair of pantyhose to brush a cat. I used some old knee highs that I was about to throw away to brush Beverly and it really did work. :bolian:

Now I want to go to the Dollar store and pick up a bunch of pairs of hose to brush Mis Gatos with. :D

But I need my wife's pantyhose intact so I can dance around the house singing showtunes while wearing them when she's not around! But that's neither here nor there.

I didn't know they had a Cats 101. I've probably watched every Dogs 101 on Youtube 2 or 3 times.

I love the euphemisms they use on that show.

Training this breed requires persistence - Unruly beast

This breed loves being an active member of the family - This dog has more energy than the power plant

This breed is food oriented - Your dog will be fat even if you starve him (my current dilemma)

It's a cool show though to get a 5 minute crash course about different breeds. And it's helped me to identify various breed at the park.

Yep, there's a Cats 101. The one that really cracked me up was the Siamese profile...unlike all the other cats, the Siamese meowed all the way through the breed summary. I thought that was SO fitting... ;)

Some cats are like that. My uncle and late aunt took in a stray tabby many years ago, and he's been a loyal member of the family ever since. He's extremely friendly and well behaved, and very fond of people, and nowadays he purrs like a trolling motor. :p

Almost all of the Cats we've had have behaved much like Dogs in their friendliness and affection. I think it's all about the way you treat them. Also, I talk to them in their own language; I do great meowing and purring, and they really respond to that.

Well, we found one! My husband fell in love with one up for adoption, and then we found out that someone had come in a half hour earlier and was interested but hadn't put money down. So we went and did some other shopping but bought a cat carrier and such just to keep ready. Then before the shelter was getting ready to take the cats back, we decided to stop by Petsmart and see if he had been adopted.

He hadn't! So they let us adopt him and much paperwork later, we have a little darling named Comet. At least that's his name for now. I'll post pics once I have any decent ones!

Congrats.

May "comet" have many a year shredding the drapes and the couch covers and stealing the turkey off the counter top.

^ Cat lover, eh?

Congrats! Cute name. So, how old is he? What colour? Don't wait for special pics, post what you've got - I'm curious!

Okay okay! He's about two months old, maybe two and a half? Here are the only pics I have of him so far. He looks older in the one than he really is.
