I've not read the novel, but people in Trek lit are saying the Burnham/Spock stuff doesn't work with the latest episode's revelations about their past.
I was going to write a joke about Gene copywriting his own wife's name, but he'd never do that. He'd just claim that her name was part of the lyrics to a jingle that he'd written and take half the royalties.
Still, though, it probably wouldn't be a good idea. Unless they asked the Roddenberry family for permission first.
Well Eugene is a listed producer, so they have an in. I like Leigh Hudec, personally. It's the fictional name created by the originator of the character. I'm surprised it hasn't shown up as her name in fiction before, seems like a natural.
